ZIMBABWEAN LOBOLO/LOBOLA is a traditional Ndebele practice where a man pays a bride price to the family of his bride-to-be for her hand in marriage. This price is usually in the form of cattle, cash, groceries and clothing to the bride’s parents.

Lobolo/lobola can be an all-day event. At each stage of the ceremony, there are traditions to observe and payments made in small increments that are determined during negotiations and are dependent on various factors. No lobolo is exactly the same. There are different cultural and family dynamics.
