A traditional dance is an interesting body movement. It belongs to the local society or community. The dance goes with traditional music. We dance to the rhythm of the song or the beat of the instruments. Everybody may take part. Each ethnic group or languages have their type of dances. The Igala people have a particular way of dancing to their songs. So also are the Yoruba, the Hausa, the Efik, Igbo and other groups in Nigeria.

Dance in every community is appreciated for its aesthetic appeal as well as religious and communication significance. The beauty of the Nigerian dance lies in its combination of purpose and high aesthetic concern, its celebration and reflection of communal life and virtue, and its embodiment of the collective beliefs and symbols, which constitute both the structure and content of the art and its ideal frankness and intensity of expression
