But the losing candidate, Raila Odinga, has refused to concede and he may challenge the results in court. Special correspondent Neha Wadekar reports from Nairobi.

The Cosmopolitan Affirming Church (CAC) is a rare space where Kenya's LGBT community can escape hostility from society, which is often reflected in hatred and vitriol from religious pulpits. Congregants of the church will be praying ahead of Friday's potentially historic decision by Kenya's High Court on whether laws that criminalise homosexuality are unconstitutional.

Kenya offered a lesson on borders to the world at the UN Security Council meet in New York convened on the request of Ukraine. Kenyan representative to the UN, Martin Kimani took a firm position against the breach of Ukraine’s territorial integrity. “Kenya, and almost every African country, was birthed by the ending of the empire. Our borders were not of our own drawing. They were drawn in the distant colonial metropoles of London, Paris and Lisbon with no regard for the ancient nations they cleaved apart,” said Kimani. This follows the arrest last month of a cult leader, who police say urged his followers to starve themselves to death. He is set to appear in court on Tuesday.
Police have exhumed 109 bodies from shallow graves at a ranch in the southeast. The Red Cross says up to 400 people could be unaccounted for.

In Kenya, corruption and bribery are commonplace in law enforcement and the government. Many police officers seem more interested in keeping citizens' cash than keeping the peace, allowing criminals to get off. Meanwhile, the government has "misplaced" $999 million. Special correspondent Nick Schifrin and producer Zach Fannin report in partnership with the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting.

At least 90 followers of the Good News International Church in Kenya have died, thought to have starved themselves to death in the hope of going to heaven. Authorities exhumed 82 bodies from shallow graves since last Friday, while eight cult members were found alive but later died.

Cult leader and pastor Paul Mackenzie, who is currently in police custody, had told his followers the world would end on April 15 and instructed them to starve themselves to be the first to go to heaven, a relative of cult members and hospital staff told reporters on Wednesday.

Kenyan President William Ruto condemned the priest at the centre of the deadly starvation cult: "Terrorists use religion to advance their heinous acts. People like Mr. Mackenzie are using religion to do exactly the same thing."

Kenya President's Epic Speech Exposes Western Blackmail in Pan-African Parliament. On Wednesday, Kenya’s president William Ruto received a standing ovation while delivering his speech at the third African Parliamentarians Summit on Climate Policy and Equity hosted by the Pan- African Parliament in Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. The African leaders rose to acknowledge his point and nodded in unison amidst claps and screams as he argued his case before the summit. The President was ranting over the mistreatment of African heads of state when attending to invites by European nations. Ruto said that African heads of state are most of the time not given a platform to explain their issues in-depth.
President Ruto also spoke about the need for members of the Pan-African parliament to ensure that the African Union’s budget is financed primarily by members instead of external partners. He stressed that African solutions should come from African countries instead of external development partners whose motives can be unclear at times, using the ongoing war in Sudan as an example.

George Barasa is a gospel singer who is well know back home in Kenya - but after he came out in 2013, he was soon counting the cost of that fame.

"I’ve been arrested four or five times, just for walking down the street, the police know me,'' he tells me.

By 2017, he feared for his life and fled to South Africa, where he's seeking asylum, and where we met today as he awaited news from Nairobi on the eagerly anticipated High Court ruling on Kenya’s anti-gay laws.

Unfortunately for Mr Barasa, a three-judge panel upheld colonial laws criminalising homosexuality, meaning a sexual act between same sex adults can still be punished by a prison sentence of up to 14 years.

In an interview with the BBC to mark 100 days since she took office, Kenya’s Chief Justice Martha Koome says trust in the judiciary has over time been affected, and now she is focusing on presenting to Kenyans a judiciary that they can have confidence in.

Chief Justice Koome, the first woman to hold this position in Kenya, said that it concerns her that cases on corruption in the country and scandals that involve millions of dollars of taxpayers' money being embezzled, are taking years to be resolved.

She also talked of the judiciary’s preparedness for the presidential elections next year, telling Kenyans that the courts are ready and willing to mediate in a non-partisan way in case any matters arise.

Uganda’s military says President Yoweri Museveni has removed his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as commander of the county's land forces, after he repeatedly threatened on Twitter to invade neighbouring Kenya.

Mr. Kainerugaba, widely regarded as the de facto head of the military and his father's chosen successor, later said the comments were made in jest.
