Many Nigerians home and abroad have reacted to a video that went viral on social media showing some of the students evacuated from the war-torn country Sudan, stranded in a desert after the buses provided by the Federal government of Nigeria to transport the students to the Egyptian border from where they would be eventually be airlifted to Nigeria, suddenly stopped.

The chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa swiftly responded to that viral video stating that the evacuation process was a tedious one and that challenges were expected adding that the government is in touch with the students and that relevant agencies would resolve the situation.

Nigerians also reacted to a video that was posted on Abike’s page on Thursday. The chairperson while giving updates on the evacuation process, stated that the students were being organized into the buses according to their states of origin.

Abike also while giving a briefing at the presidential villa on Thursday, said the first set of Nigerian evacuees from Sudan are expected to arrive in Nigeria on Friday. She also stated that 13 buses have departed from two universities in Khartoum, carrying Nigerian students to the Aswan border in Egypt, where they will be airlifted to Nigeria.

In another development, The Supreme Court on Thursday, granted leave to the Federal Government to bring nine new grounds of appeal against the release of the leader of the indigenous peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

During the resumed hearing Mike Ozekhome, counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, informed the court of his motions seeking for bail of his client and another seeking for his transfer to the Kuje Correctional Facility to get proper medical attention citing his failing health at the custody of the Department of State Services.

The Indigenous People of Biafra have criticised President Muhmmadu Buhari over his recent comments on remission, asking Nigerians to forgive him in any way he has wronged them.

Reacting in a statement issued on Wednesday, the spokesperson of IPOB Emma Powerful, said Buhari’s sins are unforgivable.

The Indigenous group alleged that many IPOB members have been killed under the Buhari administration, while over 2,523 innocent citizens in the south-east have been illegally detained.

The group asked the president to begin appeasement for his numerous sins against Biafrans by releasing Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally as ruled by the appeal court.
