Public Sector workers have launched demonstrations in Cape Town and Pretoria ahead of the budget speech by finance minister Enoch Godongwana. Public sector unions will serve the employer with a 7-day notice to embark on a full-blown strike action today. In this video I did a quick 2023 budget speech review and looked at what is relevant to individuals and small business.

I went through the guide released on the treasury's website and gave some commentary on some of the highs and lows of this years budget speech!
There was some relief and some good news for individuals and small businesses!
I also briefly touched on solar tax incentives for individuals and companies.
In a nutshell the tax tables have been adjusted so you will have a tax saving on your salary from end of March. There has also been an adjustment to the medical tax credits, and company tax rates have been reduced from 28% to 27% in the 2024 tax year.

The next financial year budget is projected at 49.9 trillion shillings up from UGX 48.1 trillion allocated for this financial year 2022/23. However, what will be available for spending by the government is UGX 22.8 trillion with the rest of the resources channelled to items like debt payment.
