Commander of the 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, Brigadier Ahmed Taiwo, has said that the Nigerian Army is unhappy that the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, denied inviting them to come and restore calm at the Lekki Tollgate area of the state in the heat of the #EndSARS protests.

Brigadier General Taiwo said this on Saturday while addressing members of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry set up by the state government to investigate cases of police brutality.

“The Nigerian army was not happy about two things. The first is his (Governor Sanwo-Olu’s) denial that he asked us to intervene when in actual fact, it was the proper thing to do,” he said.

“He called the Chief of Army Staff and the GOC 81 division and asked for intervention because the police had been overrun”.

Nigerian forces have reportedly opened fire on protesters in Lagos after 12 days of demonstrations against police brutality.

Witnesses said smoke has been rising from the direction of a toll gate on Wednesday where the shootings allegedly took place.

Two people are believed to have been shot after more than 20 officers started firing at demonstrators in the city's Lekki district on Tuesday, witnesses told Reuters.

Video shown on Nigeria's Channels Television appeared to capture audio of live rounds being fired at the scene.

Reuters uncovered a systematic and secret abortion program by Nigeria’s Army targeting women who had been kidnapped and often raped by Islamist militants. The program ended at least 10,000 pregnancies among women and girls, according to documents and sources.

We also found that the Nigerian Army targeted children for killing under the belief they were, or would become, insurgents themselves. Reuters spoke to more than 40 sources who said they saw the Nigerian military target and kill children or saw the dead bodies of children after a military operation.

At least 75 "Boko Haram terrorists" were killed on Monday in two military operations in the southeast of Niger. Two soldiers were killed and three wounded, according to the government.

According to a statement by Niger Ministry of Defence, a group of 25 "terrorists" were killed south of Diffa, a major city in the southeastern part of the country.

Nigeria, on Friday, marked its 61st Independence Day anniversary with a ceremonial parade in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

The parade, which was witnessed by President Muhammadu Buhari and other dignitaries present at Eagle Square, was also broadcast live on national television.
