Opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has been acquitted of rape charges.
However, a court has sentenced him to two years in prison for “corrupting youth”.
Sonko, was accused of raping a woman in 2021.
His detention has led to weeks of violent protests and widespread unrest.
His supporters say the trial is politically motivated by his rivals including president Macky Sall.
They insist it's a ploy to prevent Sonko from running for office next year.

According to Afrobarometer, South Africa's youth are generally seen as disengaged from conventional forms of political participation.
Ever since high school students sparked the watershed Soweto uprisings 38 years ago, South Africans have held - often simultaneously - contradictory beliefs about young people and politics.
The youth played a key role in the liberation struggle. In South Africa, June is dedicated to the youth of 1976.
Has the time come for young people to lead South Africa? To discuss this matter further, we are joined in the studio is a Student Chapter and Youth Coordinator at Rise Mzansi and Deputy Chairperson at Equal Education Lawrence Manaka; Leela-Lind Devar, economics honours student at Wits University; and Ashley Magutshwa, named one of Mail and Guardian's 200 Young South Africans when he was 16, accomplished ballet dancer and 3rd-year student in theatre and dance performance at UCT.

There’s been no proper rainfall in southern Madagascar for seven years. The ground is arid, people are suffering from hunger and thirst. The UN says this is the first hunger crisis directly caused by climate change. But is that really the case?
There’s been no water in the Manambovo river for several months. Locals dig at the sandy riverbed in the hope they’ll find a few drops of water. The government blames the long dry spell on climate change and the UN agrees that this is the main reason for the worsening crisis. But critical voices say the government shares some of the responsibility — despite years of western aid, southern Madagascar is stuck in a rut, with few tarmac roads, hardly any schools and an extremely high birth rate. DW journalist Adrian Kriesch reports on the measures needed right now, as well as the importance of the imminent rainy season.

West African leaders are due to meet in Ghana’s capital as the region sees an increase in attacks by armed groups.
Leaders of the ECOWAS bloc are also expected to review sanctions imposed on a number of countries under military rule.
Another concern for West African leaders as their economies struggle, is the rise of protests against inflation and shortages.
