I spent ten days exploring the Comoros islands in East Africa (next to Madagascar), splitting my time between Grande Comore and Mohéli. On Grande Comore I visited Moroni, the beaches of the north, Lac Salé, and Chindini.

On Moheli I stayed at Laka Lodge in Nioumachoua, where I swam, snorkled with humpback whales and turtles, and enjoyed Moheli's perfect beaches. A true paradise!

I have fallen in love with the island of Sal in Cape Verde 💙🇨🇻

It's ideal for a 'No Stress' Capeverden style break with plenty of sun throughout the year. It's also great for some winter sun as it's pretty close to Europe, lying on the west coast of Africa.

Sal is still developing as far as tourism goes, meaning there can be plenty of time to focus on you, your mind, body and soul throughout your time there.

Water activities. Mindfulness opportunities. Blue Mind moments. Plenty of quiet Blue Spaces. Learn about its culture and marine life. Healthy Waterview dining. Restful night's sleep with the sounds of waves in the background. Welcome to Water Wellness.

Here are some of the best Water Wellness activities and things to do in the video, so you can come back from your holiday feeling refreshed and rejuvenated:
- Swim in the crystal clear water and relax at Santa Maria Beach (the beach is lifeguarded)
- Watch how locally caught fish at prepared for market on Santa Maria Jetty
- Jump off the jetty into the inviting turquoise ocean
- Catch a Catamaran boat trip from Santa Maria jetty and soak in the chilled island vibes
- Snorkel to discover the underwater world and statue of 'Christ' (easily accessible by Catamaran Cruise)
- Get some adrenaline on a Jet Ski Tour of the island
- Learn so many different types of water and wind sports
- Dine with sand in between your toes at Palm Beach Restaurant
- Workout at a Beach Gym and feel the benefit of exercising outdoors
- Relax on a sunlounger at Hotel Morabeza (available to everyone)
- Take on Kitesurfing at the famous Kite Beach with world-known Cape Verde Champions
- Hire an Electric Beach Bike and hit the sand dunes, exploring most of Sal's coastline and Santa Maria's colourful back streets
- Learn about Sea Turtle Conservation at Project Biodiversity and help protect this delicate marine life
- Head to Ponta Preta Beach (lifeguarded), lined with wide, golden sands, sunbeds, watersports, and beach bars - with the best sunset view on the island

Little is know about the African nation Cape Verde, locally known as Cabo Verde. Historically, the West African islands were as a stop-over for enslaved people being transported across the Atlantics. Some famous Cape Verdeans include revolutionary Amilcar Cabral, music icons Cesario Evora, Left Eye and Horace Silver. Ethnomusicologist and Artist Marcy DePina gives us a brief history and introduction to the African nation.

Cape Verde, situated off the west coast of Africa, was uninhabited until Portuguese explorers arrived in the 15th century, making it a Portuguese colony. These islands played a significant role in the transatlantic slave trade, contributing to the nation's cultural diversity. In 1975, Cape Verde achieved independence from Portugal, becoming a sovereign nation with a unique blend of African and Portuguese influences, both culturally and linguistically. The islands' history is a testament to their resilience and rich heritage, which is reflected in their diverse music and dance traditions.

**Dance Styles Originating from Cape Verde:**

1. **Funaná:** Funaná is a lively dance and music genre native to Cape Verde. Dancers perform quick footwork, often in pairs or groups, to the lively rhythms of instruments like the accordion (gaita) and the metal scraper (ferrinho).

2. **Batuku:** Another traditional Cape Verdean dance and music style, Batuku is performed by a group of women seated in a circle. It involves clapping, singing, and body percussion, conveying themes of community and identity.

3. **Coladeira:** Coladeira is a popular Cape Verdean dance style known for its upbeat tempo and romantic lyrics. It's commonly performed at social gatherings and celebrations, creating a joyful atmosphere.

4. **Morna:** Morna is characterized by its slow, melancholic music, often accompanied by a dance featuring graceful and flowing movements. It's known for its emotional depth and is sometimes called the "blues of Cape Verde."

5. **Tabanka:** Originating in Santiago, Cape Verde, Tabanka is a lively and celebratory dance style that reflects the joy and vibrancy of Cape Verdean culture. It's often performed during festive occasions.

6. **Passada:** Passada is a captivating Cape Verdean dance style known for its graceful and flowing movements. Dancers perform intricate steps that mirror the emotions and stories conveyed in Passada music, characterized by its melancholic melodies and heartfelt lyrics.

**Comparison with Kizomba:**

While Kizomba is not originally from Cape Verde (it originated in Angola), it has gained popularity in Cape Verde and other Lusophone countries. Here's a comparison with some Cape Verdean dance styles:

- **Passada vs. Kizomba:** Both Passada and Kizomba are characterized by slow, sensual movements. However, Passada is typically performed to Cape Verdean music with its unique emotional storytelling, while Kizomba is danced to Angolan music, featuring its distinct rhythms and style. Both emphasize close partner connection and expression of emotions through dance.

Cape Verde is known for several things, and it's increasingly becoming a popular tourist destination for various reasons:

1. **Beautiful Beaches:** Cape Verde boasts stunning beaches with white sands and crystal-clear waters. The islands offer an ideal setting for sunbathing, swimming, water sports, and beach relaxation.

2. **Diverse Landscapes:** Despite its small size, Cape Verde offers a wide range of landscapes, from volcanic peaks to lush green valleys. The dramatic scenery appeals to nature lovers and hikers.

3. **Cultural Diversity:** Cape Verde is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, which reflects a blend of African, Portuguese, and other global influences. Visitors can experience this diversity through music, dance, cuisine, and festivals.

4. **Music and Dance:** Cape Verde has a vibrant music scene, with genres like Morna, Funaná, and Coladeira. Travelers often visit to enjoy live music performances and experience traditional dance forms like Funaná and Batuku.

Travel video about destination Cabo Verde.
Cape Verde is an exotic island world, an archipelago off the coast of West Africa it combines the flair of the Canaries with the charm of Africa. Explorers Christopher Columbus and Vasco Ad Gama lay anchor there in order to replenish supplies and repair their ships. It was not until 1445 that the fifteen islands were discovered and consequently became a Portuguese colony. We begin in the north east of the islands, in Sal. Crystal blue sea and endless sandy beaches, islands of both wind and sunshine with a volcanic lunar landscape twenty five kilometres long and twelve kilometres wide. Sal owes its name and colonization to its once most important export of salt which was to be found in huge quantities. Baia Da Fontana, close to Palmeira, appears like a shady oasis with various green trees that provide welcome shelter from the heat and in the background the dominant Monte Leste volcano where the slopes reach down to the shore and the splendid rock pools of Buracona. Mindelo, situated on the island São Vicente, is considered to be the cultural centre of the archipelago in which typical Creole art has been preserved. Sparse, raw and untamed it is dominated by powerful, almost mystical mountains. Santo Antão is an island of mountains, wind and water and the second largest island of Cape Verde. Its most important route is a road over the high mountains. The views of the Paúl Valley take the breath away. A fairytale world of stone which looks truly surreal. Against the background of the scenery, clouds entangle themselves within the mountains and provide life-giving moisture. Each island is unique and possesses its own special charm. Cabo Verde - islands full of light and joie de vivre!
