Mauritania es un país con una extensión territorial inmensa en relación a la población que tiene. Mauritania ocupa el lugar #230 (de 239 países y otros territorios) de densidad, es decir, de personas por kilómetro cuadrado. Es un país que se encuentra en gran parte en del desierto del Sahara. Su cultura y su sociedad se las arregla como puede para salir adelante. Tal vez para muchos, Mauritania sea una nación africana desconocida y con poca trascendencia para el mundo, pero por medio de este video puedo demostrarles que Mauritania tiene un interesante y curioso rol en su cultura musical.
La música mauritana es totalmente "tradición griot" (lo cual ya explique en el video de "Malí y su Música") al igual que países como Senegal, Gambia, Malí, el Sahara Occidental y en algunas regiones de Guinea; pero es en Mauritania en donde la "tradición musical griot" tiene la más fuerte influencia musulmana. Ellos no hacen uso de la "kora" para crear este tipo de ritmos griots, sino que más bien se valen de instrumentos folklóricos mauritanos como al "ardin", el "tdinit" y el "tbal" (mismos que podrán apreciar en las imagenes del video). El "maqam" árabe es la escala o el modo por el que miden sus improvisaciones musicales.
Es increíble los alcances que puede tener la música del mundo, es increíble que en países tan desconocidos como Mauritania se puedan dar estilos musicales tan extraños pero a la vez tan exquisitos para nuestros oídos que bien aprecian la Música Folk Mundial.
