In this video, produced by the International Fund for Animal Welfare on the ground in Tripoli, Libya, we talk with IFAW's Dr. Ian Robinson about the healing process for animals at the the Tripoli Zoo and with the Zookeeper about their recovery.

Tripoli zookeepers say the animals there are living in desperate conditions and the zoo is without the resources necessary to maintain the animals' quarters. VOA's Brandon George has the story.

From wild llamas and gazelles to hyenas and antelopes... these unique creatures that many would think belong in the wild...can all be seen at once,...at an animal farm in Libya.
One family has been raising dozens of species of wild animals for over 20 years.
Having learned the skill from his father, Jihad Diab has grown attached to them and even learned each of their languages.
"My love for animals is indescribable. Normally, the animals come to me every morning...We have breakfast and sit together. I check their natural state. I clean them, take care of the sick animals and see what they need."
Some of these animals are at risk of extinction in Libya due to animal poaching.
The Diab family has been trying to repopulate some of them, through natural breeding at the farm.

As Libya rebuilds after its devastating conflict, stories are beginning to emerge about the suffering of not just human, but animal as well.

Tripoli's main zoo has been shut down for 10 months, since the revolution began, putting rare and exotic creatures, including a liger, at risk of fatal starvation.

Al Jazeera's Imran Khan reports from the Tripoli zoo, where a zookeeper says it was his duty to help protect the animals, "a national treasure", despite the dangers.

The Diab family has been raising wild animals on their farm in Libya's Tripoli. From antelopes to hyenas, the family has raised dozens of species, many of which have become a rare sighting in the region.
