Poverty isn't getting worse. Food isn't running out. Volunteering overseas is not the best way to help. Simon Moss debunks six myths about poverty and asks a series of new questions to reshape the way we think about relief.

Simon is a campaigning and community education expert. He has contributed on development issues at some of the world's leading conferences including the G20, the World Economic Forum and the Clinton Global Initiative. He is the co-founder of the Global Poverty Project, an education and campaigning organisation working towards the end of extreme poverty, and wrote the ground-breaking 1.4 Billion Reasons presentation, which has been delivered 750+ times to 100,000+ people since 2009.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Myths About Africa.
One of the most outrageous Myths that many westerners will ignorantly proclaim is that Africa is a single country. This is one of the most common misconceptions about Africa, but it's important to remember that Africa is a continent made up of 54 different countries, each with their own unique cultures, languages, and traditions. Within a single country, there could even be more than three ethnolinguistic groups and multiple subgroups. In Nigeria for example, there are over 371 tribes. Africa is the most diverse continent after all. Africa is home to all the races on earth and though the black race is dominant, each African country is a separate sovereign state with its own unique identity.

Myth number two: Africa is a poor continent. While it's true that some countries in Africa do face economic challenges, it's important to remember that Africa is a diverse continent with many countries that are experiencing strong economic growth. In fact, some of the world's fastest-growing economies are in Africa. Africa is the future. With so many unexploited mineral resources and a more enabling political landscape, most of the future economic miracles will be in Africa. Also, poverty is not an African thing.

Myth number three: Africa is hot. This is a total lie that has been peddled by western media. Whereas some countries in Africa do indeed experience hot climates, many African countries experience cool temperate climates due to the effects of high altitude. Some like South Africa, Lesotho, and Algeria among others even experience cold snowy winters. Many so-called temperate countries in Europe and America experience even hotter temperatures in summer. Africa is also incredibly diverse in geography which translates to varied climates. From cold snowy Lesotho, cool mild Kenya, and the humid Congo basin to the hot deserts of the Sahara, Africa has it all.

Myth number four: Africa is a war-torn continent. While it's true that some countries in Africa have experienced conflict in the past, it's important to remember that Africa is a diverse continent with many peaceful countries. In fact, many countries in Africa have been experiencing peace and stability for many years. It is important to note that many of the ongoing conflicts in Africa are sponsored by Western powers to create a more enabling environment for the exploitation of its resources.

Myth number five: Africa is a continent of famine and hunger. While it's true that some countries in Africa have experienced food shortages in the past, it's important to note that Africa is a diverse continent with many countries that are working to improve their agricultural systems and increase food security. Many African countries can comfortably feed their people with a surplus for export. Many western journalists like to over-amplify Africa's food problem to advance their selfish agenda of being the 'white savior'. This is one of how neocolonialism has been perpetrated.

Myth number six: Africa is a continent of disease. Some diseases are prevalent in Africa, just as they are in many other parts of the world. It's important to remember that Africa is a diverse continent with many countries that have made significant progress in improving public health.

Myth number seven: Africa is a continent of jungle and wilderness. While it's true that some parts of Africa are covered in dense jungles and wilderness areas, Africa is a diverse continent with many different types of landscapes and environments. From deserts to mountains to grasslands, there is a wide variety of natural beauty in Africa.

Myth number eight: Africa has no history or culture. This is completely false. Africa is home to some of the oldest human civilizations in the world, and the continent is rich in history and culture. From ancient Egyptian pyramids to the great Zimbabwean ruins, Africa has a wealth of historical and cultural treasures.

Myth number nine: Africa is not safe to visit. Whereas some countries in Africa do face security challenges, it's important to remember that many countries in Africa are safe to visit. It's always a good idea to do your research and check the current travel advisories before planning a trip to any country, just like you would while visiting the US, which has the highest gun-related homicide rate in the world.

Myth number ten: Africa is not developed. While it's true that some countries in Africa are less developed than others, it's important to remember that Africa is a diverse continent with many countries that are making significant progress in terms of development. From new infrastructure to improved education systems, many countries in Africa are working hard to improve the lives of their citizens. In Africa, you will encounter huge modern cities, vast networks of highways, ultramodern airports, fast-moving railroads, and a booming technology industry.

In this as a Nigerian migrant who lives in South Africa video I talk about the real reason why Nigerian citizens always migrate to other African countries like South Africa, Ghana, Senegal, Togo, Kenya abs other countries like unites states of America, Canada Australia, United Kingdom and the whole of Europe in general.
I talked about why Nigerians migrate to South Africa, Ghana & other African countries as well as other countries due to the lack of basic infrastructure in Nigerian, bad roads, insecurity like boko haram, greener pastures as Nigerians migrants always seeks.
