The Life of people in the Mali Empire (1240-1600 CE) was largely characterized by a vibrant culture and a strong sense of community. The Mali Empire was a large and powerful trading empire that stretched across much of West Africa in the 13th and 14th centuries. The people of the Mali Empire were a diverse mix of various African ethnicities and religions, including Muslim, Christian, and Animist beliefs. The Mali Empire was ruled by two dynasties, the Keita and the Songhai. The people of the Mali Empire were divided into four classes: nobles, free men, slaves, and merchants. The nobles included the king and the princely families, while the free men were the farmers and artisans. Slaves were those who had been taken as prisoners of war or through other means. Merchants could be found in every major city of the empire, and they were the main source of revenue for the kingdom. A Ségou, dans la cour de Biton, des notables bambaras boivent de la bière de mil préparée par Banadiè. Deux femmes échappent aux brigands, arrivent essoufflées. Les notables bambaras s’indignent de cette attaque. Et comme ce type d’agression se répète trop souvent, ils se proposent de former un « ton » (association en Bambara) pour mieux se défendre.
Le soir, Saran, une des femmes poursuivies, accuse son mari Kroungo de l’avoir abandonnée à la vue des brigands. Elle refuse de partager sa couche avec un lâche.
Biton déclaré chef du ton interdit l’accès au fleuve un jour de la semaine. De plus, pour entretenir les hommes armés, il décide de lever un impôt obligatoire en espèce ou en nature voir même des personnes physiques qui vont servir dans l’armée du « ton ». Certains notables sont mécontents de ces décisions.
L’armée de Sido Karafé est défaite. Sido Karafé, Toto Kourou et Bansandoni Koné alors membres fondateurs du « ton » capturés sont conduits devant Biton avec leurs hommes. Ils seront rasés et incorporés dans l’armée.
Quelques temps plus tard, Kamissa gnognon le frère de Binaba se moque de Biton. Biton l’arrête et le fait tuer.
La femme de Sido Karafé, lui apporte l’eau du fleuve et s’accuse d’avoir incité son mari à la révolte et d’être responsable de la prise de Sido par Biton.

D'apres une histoire vraie. Fatou, une jeune française d'origine malienne, vit à Paris dans le quartier de Barbès avec ses parents et son jeune frère qui comme elle connaît peu de chose concernant la culture de son pays. Motivée, elle quitte ses études pour se consacrer exclusivement à sa passion : la mode. Mais l'entourage de sa famille n'apprécie guère l'indépendance de Fatou, et conseille à ses parents de penser sérieusement à la caser… Avec Fatou N'Diaye, Claudia Tagbo et Pascal Nzozi.
Les habitants de Fatô bougou, célèbrent eux aussi la journée de la folie à leur manière. Ils se comportent en fou pendant une journée pour montrer que les malades mentaux sont des nôtres. Paul, un expatrié américain décide de faire une visite à sa copine Isabelle en poste à Fatô bougou. Ce jeune arrive pendant cette journée de la folie et devient le fou du village. C'est ainsi qu'il va également découvrir certains aspects de la culture de la société bambara.
