Climate change is one of the greatest threats facing humanity. This year, International Women’s Day focused on highlighting the efforts of women and girls around the world to ensure a sustainable future for all. In recognition of International Women’s Day, the Sié Center's Inclusive Global Leadership Initiative (IGLI) and the Environmental Sustainability Initiative at the Korbel School of International Studies invited members of the IGLI network to discuss their activism and the role that grassroots activists and women’s movements have played in addressing the climate crisis and working towards environmental justice. Our panel discussed the links between environmental activism and other social justice movements.
Panelists: Olankike Olugboji - The founder of the Women’s Initiative for Sustainable Environment (WISE), a non-profit organization that advances grassroots women’s representation, active participation, and leadership in natural resource governance. Yevgeniya Chirikova - An environmental activist and founder of the Save Khimki Forest Movement, which organizes against environmental destruction and degradation, and corruption. She has also been credited with stimulating nationwide interest in political reform in Russia.

Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth is visiting Delhi for the G20 Leaders' Summit on September 9-10. Ahead of the event, he sang praises for India and lauded the country for its "tremendous growth" in economy, innovation, technology, as well as the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon.

"The leaders came to Rio with clearly very low ambitions, probably with the desire to block grievances on any issue that would not be of particular benefit to them or their countries," Bassey says. "They've come up with a draft agreement that is shallow, that is hollow, that doesn't describe or deal with the root causes of the multiple crises that the world is confronted with right now."

Welcome to NATO HQ, it is really a pleasure to have you here. And I very much appreciate the meeting we just had, where we discussed how to further develop the cooperation between NATO and your country.

NATO and Cabo Verde share the same values. Of freedom, democracy, and human rights.

You already have a close relationship with many Allies, including Portugal.
And last year you signed a memorandum of understanding with the United States to increase defence cooperation and maritime security.

In 2006, Cabo Verde hosted the NATO exercise Steadfast Jaguar.

This major exercise involving more than 7,000 troops tested the ability of NATO’s rapid response force to carry out missions anywhere at any time.

Today, we discussed Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine.
And ways to increase our cooperation in a more dangerous and competitive world.

I welcome Cabo Verde’s clear stance on Ukraine.
Including through your votes at the UN General Assembly.

Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine,
instability in the Middle East,
and the ongoing threat of terrorism,
remind us of our security, that our security is not regional.
It is global.

What happens in Europe matters for Africa,
And what happens in Africa, matters for Europe.

So NATO is stepping up our cooperation with our partners to defend our values and the rules-based international order.

NATO already has partners in North Africa.
And we are strengthening our cooperation with the African Union.
To address common challenges, including terrorism, climate change, and small arms proliferation.

So thank you, Prime Minister, for your personal leadership.
