An unapologetic expression of faith and gratefulness is paired with festive lighting, poinsettias and ornaments in this holiday Tiny Desk (home) concert from Jonathan McReynolds and Mali Music.
Both musicians are prominent in the latest generation of contemporary gospel and inspirational artists, incorporating secular sounds and outreach as an entry point into the "good news" of gospel music. They each follow in the footsteps of Kirk Franklin (and of Edwin and Walter Hawkins before him). Individually, McReynolds and Mali Music's output showcases a marriage of motivating messages and faith, with music that younger audiences are more attuned to. The duo came together last year to release "Movin' On," which yielded "good news" of its own in the form of a Grammy award, followed by a nomination this year for their EP Jonny x Mali: Live in LA. Given how effortlessly they trade-off during this Tiny Desk performance, I can see a Christmas album in their future.
A captivating rendition of "Christmas Time is Here" starts off their performance as their perfectly paired voices float over an understated accompaniment, which includes McReynolds on guitar. From there, the pair treat us to a medley of Christmas carols more rooted in faith, with McReynolds singing triumphantly, "In HIM there is no failure!" during "O Come, All Ye Faithful" and Mali Music delivering a stirring and meditative rendition of "Silent Night." Following the medley, McReynolds and Mali Music treat us to "Movin' On." After another year of still contending with the uncertainty of a global pandemic, the lyrics provide a reminder that "...my rearview can't compare to what God will do with my life."

About This Release:
'In Session' is the debut album from UK dub producer Mali-I released on None More Records. Mali-I is Mali Baden-Powell (Z Lovecraft / Rhythm Section / Monzanto Sound), 3rd Generation Windrush, named after Bob, spelt like the country.
The album draws on Mali-I's deep love of UK dub and the likes of sound system innovators such as The Bug, Wackies and Channel One, but brings in contemporary London sounds via his long time affiliation with London party and label Rhythm Section.
The record draws on a wide range of reggae and dub influences, from UK Lovers Rock with tunes like the lead single 'Heaven Sent' and 'Near Or There' and the current London rap and r'n'b scene with killer second single 'This Place'. There's also darker and harder instrumental dub material aimed at sound systems like 'Scorpio Riddim' for the heads.
Mali-I adds his own contemporary take on these classic sounds, drawing on his extensive experience operating Biodiversity Studios, working as a sound designer and mixing engineer, lending the record an exquisitely refined experimental approach to the aesthetic of the record, as well as drawing on his experience of playing live keys in his band Monzanto Sound, also on NMR. Mali-I is joined by a host of killer guest vocalists across the record, including the inimitable Natty Wylah, the heavenly vocals of Ms. Ray, J Caesar's soulful voice and Lincoln Barrett's deep and moody snarl across two tracks.

This is an animated population pyramid comparison of these two countries' total population by five year age bands from 1950 to 2100. Data from 1950 to 2020 are estimates and data from 2021 onwards are projections. Both are prepared by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs in their 2019 Revision of World Population Prospects. The full data source citation can be seen below. They have many other interesting data sets displaying key demographics indicators for various groups and areas of the world.
The animation is written in notepad++ using Google Charts Javascript libraries, plus a small amount of CSS and html coding. It's then rendered in a web browser and recorded using OBS Studio, with music added on top. I use Excel to clean and manipulate the data. Python is used to control the recording process, various VBA macros and batch files to automate the music and animations.
I hope you found this population pyramid entertaining, beautiful and informative to watch. I have many other population pyramids on my channel, for both specific countries and regions (with male/female splits) and comparisons between them.
