I stumbled upon this tiny segment in a larger documentary by @drewbinsky a couple months ago on his journey to learn about tribal life in the West Papuan rainforest. The sincerity and purity in this man's voice just shook me to my core, to such a degree that I stopped watching and haven't even seen the rest of the documentary since.
Drew originally set out to meet the Korowai people to learn about and document the nature of their cannibalism, but was accidentally taken to a different group called the Mamuna tribe, who welcomed him with open arms, and allegedly have only recently had their first contact with humans of the modern industrialized world.
I think it says something remarkable that they have a song that I can so immediately and viscerally connect with, even though our cultural and musical references—on the surface—might be as distant as they get. On top of that, the fact that I can be sitting here in my little Canadian cabin, and not only hear, but sing alongside these people, and then share that with the world, is profound to me.
I'd love so much if this could somehow reach their ears someday. What a gift of an outcome that would be.

Com esta produção pretende-se passar a mensagem clara sobre responsabilidade geracional na preservação da identidade musical e cultural guineense também incutir na cabeça da geração vindoura o quão importante um envolvimento e comprimento serio sobre a nossa memória colectiva para salvar a cultura especialmente a música tradicional
A madjuandadi é, numa tradução nua e crua, a convivência. Convivência essa que se faz, atendendo a numerosos factores, nomeadamente idade, gênero, etnia etc… Mas tendo sempre como pano de fundo a música, o cantar guineense que exterioriza o sentimento humano em todos os seus estados, recorrendo muita das vezes aos (proverbios) ditos para fazer passar as mensagens.
Destaca-se o crioulo como a língua por meio da qual as cantigas de dito são expressas; investiga-se a origem dos termos mandjua e mandjuandadi, este último visto como organização de mulheres com estrutura, regras de funcionamento e eventos dos quais participam. As mandjuandadi são vistas também como lugar de manifestação cultural no qual as cantigas de dito são criadas, ganham corpo, ritmo, performance. A análise dessa performance vale-se, dentre outros recursos, da construção de operadores de discursos dos quais a cabaça e o pano se mostram como elementos de um sistema de sentido, na sua relação e articulação com as cantigas de dito.
Procura-se demonstrar que as cantigas de mandjuandadi constituem uma das matrizes da poesia guineense poesia, já que em ambas fazem-se presentes tanto os recursos poéticos quanto temas que remetem a lugares e sentimentos que o sujeito poético encena.
Para concluir deve-se realçar e, na Guiné-Bissau, a oralidade ocupa um lugar muito importante; o cantar é onipresente, pois acompanha o contar – a narrativa –, o riso e o pranto, a alegria e a dor. O nascimento, a iniciação, o casamento, a morte, os mortos e os ancestrais proporcionam momentos de exaltação coletiva e são motivos para se entoarem as mais diversas canções. Por isso, diante da reduzida fonte escrita sobre as tradições guineenses, julga-se que, mais do que lamentar essa falta, é preciso tomar iniciativas que possam inverter a situação, abrindo caminhos para estudos e pesquisas sobre esse volumoso e rico patrimônio cultural. Por isso trouxemos para aqui hoje a nossa mandjuandadi para juntos cantarmos a nossa guinendadi.
