The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has submitted fresh evidence before the Supreme Court against President Bola Tinubu. Atiku's documents accuse President Tinubu of forgery and perjury, seeking his disqualification and removal from office.
The evidence presented by the former vice president consists of academic records obtained from Chicago State University (CSU) in the United States, following an Illinois court order instructing the institution to release Tinubu's academic records. Atiku had requested these documents to support his claim that Tinubu forged a certificate he purportedly obtained from CSU in 1979, which was submitted to Nigeria's electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for the 2023 presidential election.
In response to these allegations, the Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa, Mohammad Manta, expressed condemnation of Atiku Abubakar's claims of certificate forgery against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Atiku, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Paul Ibe, addressed the matter, asserting that there had been various attempts to distort the facts surrounding President Tinubu's educational qualifications since the deposition regarding the issue emerged in the United States. Atiku emphasized the need for clarity and transparency in the matter.
