Tension grew in the streets of Burundi’s capital Bujumbura on Monday as protesters demonstrating against President Pierre Nkurunziza’s bid for a third term in office came face to face with soldiers deployed to the city's streets. U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas Greenfield, spoke to VOA on the U.S. position. The battle for Burundi has centered on control of the country’s influential radio stations. VOA’s Gabe Joselow reports from the capital, Bujumbura, that private and government media have both been casualties of the recent political violence. Later, Vincent Makori talks to VOA’s State Department Correspondent Pam Dockins.
