In this video, we will talk about the latest developments in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a country that is facing multiple challenges ahead of its presidential and legislative elections on December 20.

One of the major issues that has sparked controversy is the recall of DRC’s ambassadors from Kenya and Tanzania by its foreign ministry. The reason for this decision is that Tanzania hosts the headquarters of the East African Community (EAC), which DRC also belongs to. The EAC is a regional organization that aims to promote cooperation and integration among its 21 member states, including DRC.

On Saturday, December 16, Alain Tshibanda, spokesperson for DRC’s foreign ministry, announced on X platform that DRC had recalled its ambassadors from Kenya and Tanzania for consultations1. He did not specify the nature or duration of the consultations, but he said they were related to "the situation in our region.

The recall came after a new Congolese military alliance that includes rebels was launched in Nairobi on Friday, December 15. The alliance was called the Congo River Alliance (CRA) and it was formed by Congolese politicians and groups such as the M23 rebels, who have seized territory in eastern Congo, and Corneille Nangaa, a former Congo election commission chief2.

Nangaa said at the launch that he was looking for a lasting solution to end the conflict in Congo and bring peace to all communities2. He also said that he had no intention of interfering in Kenya’s internal affairs or threatening its security2.
