Tanzanian president Samia Hassan shortly after being sworn in stated she wouldn’t induce a u-turn in Tanzanian politics. She was a close ally of the deceased president John Magufuli. Magufuli’s leadership was marked by his autocratic leadership, by banning political rallies and dissent as well as a denial of the pandemic. Hassan is gently introducing positive changes to fundamental freedoms human rights groups say, paving the way for more democracy in the country.
