Sudan: Supporters of Sudan's transitional government took to the streets of the capital Thursday as rival demonstrators kept up a sit-in demanding a return to military rule.

Libya: The government hosted senior foreign officials on Thursday to discuss transitional issues as the country prepares for a landmark December election. The conference was held ahead of planned presidential polls under a United Nations-led peace process aiming to stabilize Libya.


Egypt: The government intends to more than quadruple desalination capacity by granting private companies concessions from its sovereign wealth fund to build 17 plants over the next five years with sustainable solar energy. The push for desalination comes from Egypt's growing population and competition for Nile water.



Nigeria: Activists staged commemorations in several cities in Nigeria Wednesday, one year after security forces violently suppressed protests, despite several warnings from the authorities.



South Africa: Eight Nigerian nationals appeared in Cape Town Magistrates' Court on Wednesday facing charges relating to internet scams, money laundering and identity theft. Proceedings have been continued until next Tuesday and Thursday for formal bail proceedings.
