More than a week after the presidential runoff election on the Comoros islands, the outcome still remains in doubt.

The president of Comoros has said he is ready to bring forward the date of the presidential poll. The tense Indian Ocean archipelago has a system of rotating presidency but Sambi's term was extended by 18 months in a 2009 referendum. Duration: 01:15.

Security was tightened on Wednesday in Comoros as 13 polling stations returned to the polls in a partial re-run of the presidential election. Polling stations were open from 7 am on Wednesday, which had been declared a public holiday.

Riot police were deployed in the island of Anjouan, after the second round of presidential elections held on April 10 were marred by irregularities and violence.

Prosecutors in Comoros have issued an international arrest warrant for Jaffar Ahmed Said Hassani, a former vice-president who opposed a series of constitutional reforms enabling president Azali Assoumani to extend his term in office.
