Fouad Mebazaa, the speaker of the Tunisian parliament, has been sworn as the country's new interim president.

He now has 60 days to organise new presidential elections under the Tunisian constitution.

Meanwhile, jail breaks and riots have been reported at several Tunisian prisons, and citizens say they are afraid that more violence will follow.

Protesters in Tunisia say Monday's referendum on constitutional reforms is illegal.
The proposed changes would sideline parliament and remove most checks on the president's power.
Opposition groups say it's a return to autocracy.
If approved, the new constitution would end the hybrid presidential-parliamentary system blamed for the political inflighting that paralysed Tunisia's post-revolution governments.

Meanwhile, lawyers, judges and some teachers began a two day strike, as the influential UGTT trade union called for a general strike on Friday. The French embassy in Tunis also announced that its schools in the city would be closed on Friday and Saturday.
A growing confrontation between hard-liners and moderates within the ruling party. Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali, a leading member of the Islamist Ennahda party, said in a televised address late on Wednesday that he would form a new non-political administration ahead of fresh elections. He did not say when these elections would take place.
