Kenya's Supreme Court has ruled that William Ruto was properly elected president.

It came after his rival, Raila Odinga, and others had alleged there had been massive fraud.

Several petitions seeking to annul the result of the 9 August election were dismissed, with the judges saying some petitioners had falsified evidence.

Mr Ruto garnered 50.5% of the vote in the closely fought election against 48.8% for Mr Odinga.

The 55-year-old will be sworn in as the country's fifth president next week.

Surrogacy is a stigmatised issue in Kenya, with no specific laws on the issue, and a reproductive health policy only recently launched.

Some communities like the Kamba take an unusual approach to surrogacy, where the surrogate mother is married to the woman seeking her surrogacy services.

Many countries around the world allow children to stay with their incarcerated mothers in prison. However, the issue is controversial, as some argue prison is not a safe environment in which to bring up a child.

In Kenya, around 200 children are currently held in confinement with their mothers who are serving prison sentences. This is raising debates in the country about what course of action is best to help them.

The BBC’s Agnes Penda reports.

For the first time members of Kenya’s counter-terrorism police admit to “eliminating” suspected Muslim radicals.

Speaking exclusively to Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit, officers from four units of Kenya’s counter-terrorism apparatus admitted the police assassinate suspects on government orders.

They claim that the order to assassinate is made by the National Security Council, a body chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The film examines how extra-judicial killings are seemingly becoming normalized, thirteen years after the so-called ‘War on Terror’ was declared.

Mary Wambui's divorce settlement has set precedent in Kenya, when the presiding judge acknowledged that housework is work in a matrimonial case ruling. This is the first implementation of the 2013 Matrimonial Property Act.

This is a landmark declaration for women across Africa and can now be used by other judges in determining cases where housewives are involved hence awarding them with the necessary monetary compensation.
