It's been one year since the Lekki Toll Shooting, a moment that came from the historic #ENDSARS protest. It was triggered by the excesses of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a now-disbanded police tactical unit, notorious for cruelty against crime suspects.
Although SARS activities included unlawful arrests, torture, and extrajudicial killings, the protest became a platform to demand government’s decisive action against insecurity, corruption, economic woes, general maladministration, and lack of opportunities for the youths.

Some of the political transitions Africa are are smooth and predictable. An example of transitions which have been problematic is Kenya which culminated in the swearing-in of opposition leader Raila Odinga, following what was described as unfair elections in that county.

Cameroon is another example of political tensions which have scattered over the country pending general elections which are to take place in October this year.

In Egypt also, the going has not been smooth where President Al Sisi recently won in elections boycotted by the major parties.
