The Idoma people have said they are not a part of the agitation for Biafra - Idoma people say they are in no way affiliated to Nnamdi Kanu's IPOB - The clarification comes days after Kanu was seen dressed in Idoma atire The Idoma people of Benue state have said they have no part in the agitation for a Biafra Republic. According to a statement seen by NAIJ.com, the Idoma people distanced themselves from the inclusion of its territory in the map of Biafra by the Nnamdi Kanu-led Independent People of Biafra (IPOB). The Idoma people said Kanu, who recently donned the Idoma traditional attire to a court hearing in Abuja was only using Biafra for self-enrichment. In a five-point communique in Otukpo, Benue state on Wednesday, May 31, the Idoma National Youth Forum for Justice said the inclusion of Benue South in the map of the defunct Biafra was a deliberate attempt by the agitators to pitch the people against the Nigerian government. IPOB had recently claimed that Biafra spans from Itsekiri on the western boundary with Oduduwa to Bakassi on the eastern boundary with the Cameroons, and also stretches from Idoma and Igala land on the northern boundary with Northern Nigeria to the Bight of Biafra which is South of the island of Bonny.

SWAHILI FOR THE EAST, GUOSA FOR THE WEST AFRICA -- ECOWAS. The colonial lingua franca monopoly of the indigenous independent Nigeria and the West African nations did not only destabilize and destroy the socio-political and industrial strategies of the countries; it raised data or questions which borders on the basis for cohesion, comprehension, industrial and technological revolution and the unity in such diversity because language plays a unifying role in the beginning, development, beliefs, and customs of any group of people.

The need for an indigenous evolved lingua franca for Nigeria and the Economic Communities of the West African States (ECOWAS) cannot be over emphasized. Experts have pointed out that most people think in the language of their mother land, and that when they speak other languages of no identical parameters to their ethnicity they engaged in transliteration and endless hurdles before the main issues at hand.

Language is a means by which words or expressions find meaning and is put into use. Basically, it is used as a means of giving out information, thoughts, skills, ideas, reasoning and ensures receipt of same from varied sources without. Above all, language is knowledge, and knowledge is POWER to the people, from the people and by the people.

The Guosa Language:

There are about 400 different ethnic languages, dialects and fractional tongues in Nigeria and about twice this number in other West African countries. The Guosa Language alone had in its evolution at least 120 of these divers tongues beginning with a pair in evolution. The language is made up of carefully detailed units of the different ethnic languages and cultures, so that in the future years, Nigeria and the West African Regional Countries should be able to take their positive stand in the communities of lingua franca nations of the world, such as the East Africa, the North Africa, Europe, America, Asia and so on.

Help sponsor or donate for the Guosa Language Train-the-Trainers school project, and lay the building blocks of ECOWAS unity now and in posterity. Contact us at:

Session 2 - Deep Time Traditions of Civilisation: Yoruba

Deep Pasts, Deep Cultures: Mande, Yoruba and Kongo
Symposium Convenor: Kevin MacDonald (UCL African Studies/ Institute of Archaeology)
Discussants: Barbaro Martinez-Ruiz (UCT), Michael Rowlands (UCL)

Supported by UCL’s Centre for research on the Dynamics of Civilisation
https://www.ucl.ac.uk/research....-frontiers/civilisat

Over the past two millennia African civilizations, with unique political traditions, artistic corpora, musical styles and oral literatures have grown and flourished along the valleys of the Niger, the Congo River basin and elsewhere in the Sub-Sahara. Often placed to one side by Afrocentrists in favour of Egypt/Kemet, or dismissed as insignificant by the criteria of Eurocentrists, these Deep Cultures have played a profound role in forming the basis of long-lived and enduring African civilizations. A challenge for African Studies today is both to capture the uniqueness of these civilizations and to disentangle the multiple traditions, ideas and histories which have shaped them. Ultimately, a plurality of understandings must come together to comprehend their idealised worlds and their continuing work in making the continent a better place. In this symposium we invite scholars to explore the historical depth configuring the Mande, Yoruba and Kongo civilizations: in the past and the present.
