Listen to our interview with Hajar Yagkoubi, Former UN Youth Representative and Sam Schwencke, climate activist. We recorded it in our third country during the SolarButterfly Climate Pioneer World Tour in Den Haag, The Netherlands.

Hajar Yagkoubi, Former UN Youth Representative, who during her two-year mandate in the UN got a comment from an older representative that maybe she should wait until she is a bit older and more experienced to take part in the climate discussion. But she disagrees: her generation has no time to wait, action is needed now. After the UN she has been focusing more on the corporate world and seeing how this sector could change for the better.

Sam Schwencke, climate activist, with her 24 years is one of the youngest politician in her town. She believes change can happen on a systematic, societial level, through policies and politics and through society having conversations about it. She also talks about fighting for issues petitions could not solve by breaking the law in a non-violent way - for example blocking roads for media attention. She balances being in a former institution and using civilian rebellion ways with disruptive actions to fight for climate.

We’ve all experienced times when the voice in our head tells us to stay silent when we’ve seen or have been subjected to non-inclusive behaviour. Instead of listening to that little voice, it’s time to find yours and use it to #SpeakUpForInclusion.

Traditionally, ideas have been dispersed through cultures via universities, books, newspapers, magazines, television, radio. Until recently, getting your ideas “out there” necessarily involved dealing with third parties—educational establishments, publishers, editors, producers, and the like—who stood between you and your audience. In the realm of intellectual activism, barriers to entry were high, and the possibility of making substantial money by advancing ideas was relatively slim. But times have changed.

There’s a new breed of intellectual activists who are taking their ideas directly to the public and making a living in the process. These new intellectual entrepreneurs—bloggers, podcasters, YouTubers, and the like—have circumvented traditional communications establishments by exploiting inexpensive technologies and innovative means of monetization. What can we learn from these intellectual entrepreneurs? How can advocates of freedom and flourishing best take advantage of these ideas and technologies to make a difference? Jim Brown explores these and related questions.

"Everybody is born into a script they didn’t write for themselves. But activists defy that script to rewrite the narrative, non-binary activist, storyteller and former international ambassador for Black Lives Matter, Janaya Future Khan, said in a powerful talk that wove together theory with raw personal experiences, including a racist encounter on a plane.

Khan was careful to differentiate real activism that drives change from the crescendo of surface-level proclamations, from individuals and brands alike, that have filled social media in recent years.

“If we’re talking about what the work of activism really is, it’s about seeing the world as it is, not as we’re told,” they said. “Our job is to imagine change and make it true.”

Many officials and climate activists claim we have only 12 years to act on global warming. Where does this figure come from? A 2018 Special Report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The second sentence of that document reads, "Global warming is likely to reach 1.5 degrees C between 2030 and 2052 if it continues to increase at the current rate." The 12-year figure comes from subtracting the year of the report, 2018, from the earliest possible date of 1.5 degrees C warming, 2030.

The problem is that this was a statement about the past, dressed up to suggest that it's about the future. It's not about what will happen; it's extrapolating from what has already happened. Actual temperatures in 2030 will depend on whether warming speeds up or slows down, and also on whether the year is warmer or colder than the long-term trend.

Why the 22-year range? The authors of the IPCC report defined the current rate using data from 1960 to 2017. Using the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) land-ocean temperature series that underpins most popular reporting about warming, global excess temperatures were 0 in January 1960 and 0.94 degrees C in December 2017. So the Earth has to warm another 0.56 degrees C to reach 1.5 degrees C. Some fifth-grade math tells us that should happen in 34.55 years if warming continues at the same rate. We'd hit 1.5 degrees C on July 21, 2051. Different measurements might give a couple of years either way, but not 22 years.

The range of 2030 to 2052 is not about how warm the earth is but who's responsible for the change in temperature. The figures reflect "anthropogenic warming," or warming rooted in human activity. By citing a range of 2030 to 2052, the authors are indicating a high level of uncertainty. They're not sure how much of the 0.17 degrees C per decade warming is "anthropogenic," or rooted in human activity. They think it's possible that humans are warming the Earth 0.3 degrees C and some unknown factor is actually cooling the Earth 0.13 degrees C. (The IPCC declined to make any of the report's authors available for an interview).

If you think the problem with global warming is hotter temperatures (melting ice, rising sea levels, and other physical effects), then you should care about the year 2052, not 2030. But if you think the problem with global warming is that humans are tampering with something pristine—and you only consider the worst possible scenario—then 2030 is your date. Focusing on anthropogenic warming suggests that what's happening in the real world matters less than who's at fault.

Sad photos and depressing statistics can only get a charitable campaign so far, especially in a world with “skip” buttons and commercial-free streaming. Ian Smith invites his audience to explore creative, artistic, and hilarious campaign strategies, all while discussing how valuable it can be to rely on inspiration rather than guilt when targeting a broad audience. Ian Smith has been hosting community events and leadership dialogues across Texas since 2010, when he co-founded and expanded his dorm-room idea into a registered 501c3 non-profit. The Human-Environmental-Animal-Team (H.E.A.T.) started as a small club aiming to make volunteering fun. Within one year, the club won a cash grant and the title of “Organization of the year” from Texas State University. Since its creation in 2010, Ian has founded eight chapters at universities and high schools across Texas. Ian also founded and currently manages a successful abroad program focusing on reforestation and restoration of coral reefs throughout Asia and Central America. Outstanding members from H.E.A.T. chapters have taken positive activism to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Thailand and Indonesia, changing the lives of attending students. The various H.E.A.T. chapters across Texas partake in physical volunteer work and have had many successes in launching creative awareness and fundraising campaigns. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

Abstract:
Many Non-Profit organizations around the globe aim to influence social change and improve communities. A method these activists can use to help educate others about their message, mobilize their communities and cause social change is digital activism.

Digital Activism uses digital communication tools to achieve goals of social change. Successful social change campaigns often incorporate creativity and interactivity with a meaningful message for the community.

Let's explore successful strategies for digital activists:
1. Have goals and assess outcomes. Organizations must develop a strategy to achieve their goals, conduct research and assess the outcomes of the campaign efforts to succeed in their digital activism campaign.

2. Provide incentives to bring supporters in & give them a reason to stay. Consider the user's experience and play with digital tools & social media to make communication personal and meaningful.

3. Reinforce traditional means of activism.

4. Mobilize & inspire your followers. Communicating the organization's message and inspiring your followers to mobilize behind that message is by far the most important element of a digital activism campaign.

Clearly, digital activists face many challenges including, but not limited to: Internet user passivity, authenticity, online security, and information overload. These are all very real hurdles activists face, but they are not impossible to overcome.

Understand that your successful digital activism campaign will be comprised of personal sacrifice, great discomfort & wonderful learning opportunities. You will also need brilliant creative thinking to light the fire of social change.

As of right now, the Constitutional Colonials are two Firearm rights advocates from the Great State of Ohio. We have mentioned this elsewhere on our social media previously, but we would ultimately like to form a non-profit gun rights association that will FIGHT for the American People. There can NEVER be enough organizations that exist in this country that would fight for gun rights every day. We strive to eventually become one of those organizations, but we need help. We need help from our viewers, our supporters, and anyone that loves the inalienable, fundamental, and God Given Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. Help us FIGHT the good FIGHT by spreading our names. Share this video with your friends, like and comment, and PLEASE SUBSCRIBE to our Youtube Channel.
