Intelligence agencies are influencing governments and spying on countries with no regard for the law. And they are able to remain nearly invisible, in the process. Are they the new superpowers?

The last time intelligence agencies commanded as much power as they do today was during the Cold War. Technological innovations mean that more sophisticated warfare is now a reality. It is not just about Russia and the USA anymore. We may be entering a new era of unrest.

The U.S. has lost more spies and informants since 2010 than at any other time since the Cold War. Leaders of German intelligence agencies also acknowledge that they have once again fallen upon tough times. Money, data and access are proving to be major factors in determining who actually wields power. The 2016 U.S. election made this clear: U.S. intelligence agencies are certain that Russian intelligence helped elect Donald Trump.

But the U.S. has lost old spheres of influence and allies are increasingly pursuing their own agendas. Can President Biden make his country a force for order in the world, again? And what does that mean for political hot spots and potential conflicts with China, Iran, and Russia? And for allies like Saudi Arabia and Turkey? Will Western intelligence agencies regain the power they once exerted? Wars fought with drone and hacker attacks, increasingly delegated power, and surveillance could push these conflicts to their tipping point.

https://my-store-d5433f.creator-spring.com/ While about 8 percent, or about 530, of Harvard's undergraduates were black, Lani Guinier, a Harvard law professor, and Henry Louis Gates Jr., the chairman of Harvard's African and African-American studies department, pointed out that the majority of them -- perhaps as many as two-thirds -- were West Indian and African immigrants or their children, or to a lesser extent, children of biracial couples.

They said that only about a third of the students were from families in which all four grandparents were born in this country, descendants of slaves. Many argue that it was students like these, disadvantaged by the legacy of Jim Crow laws, segregation and decades of racism, poverty and inferior schools, who were intended as principal beneficiaries of affirmative action in university admissions.

Some say LSD produces hallucinations and lowers inhibitions. Others believe it makes people more capable, efficient and creative. In Silicon Valley, many even say LSD can be a tool for self-improvement.

More and more people in Germany are discovering what’s known as microdosing in order to be the best they can be. Every three days, a 28-year-old man takes his LSD out of the freezer and slowly lets the ice cube containing the drug melt on his tongue. He’s taking ten micrograms of LSD. He learned about it online and says the allegedly harmless dose makes him feel more focused, productive and empathetic.

The trend from Silicon Valley is an open secret at many innovative start-up companies. Paul Austin, who’s something of an LSD guru in Silicon Valley says, "People who responsibly take psychedelic drugs in microdoses will rule the job markets of the future.” But others are sceptical. They warn about self-medication, saying there’s no way of knowing the LSD’s concentration. If things go wrong, psychoses and persistent sensory disorders may follow. But this documentary shows there is more to it. After years of being locked away with the poisons, 'acid' is back and a hit among a new generation of researchers and doctors. Some say it can ease depression and anxiety. So is LSD good medicine? This film explores the past and present of a drug that was legal until the 1960s and was used by doctors to treat the blues and alcohol addiction.

Der Film „Malaysia for me is ...“ thematisiert den „Boom“ der Anzahl afrikanischer Studierender in Malaysia. Vier Protagonisten aus vier verschiedenen Ländern Afrikas erzählen was sie nach Malaysia führte, was sie sich von dem Studium versprechen und vor welche Herausforderungen sie das Leben in einer anderen Kultur stellt. Der Film bietet einen Einblick in ihren Alltag und in ihre – positiven wie negativen - Erfahrungen mit Malaysia.

Malaysia becomes an emerging supplier of higher education, aiming to turn into a global education hub with 10% of tertiary students coming from abroad by 2020. Having already established itself as a large supplier of higher education in South-East Asia and China, Malaysia has recently started to look out for new regions, which could serve as lucrative student providers. Africa with its rapid economic development, high population growth and the resulting increase of demand for quality higher education has become one of the new target regions for the Malaysian student recruitment.
In 2014, the Malaysian immigration office issued more than 27,000 student visas for African nationals, which are 25,000 visas more than in 2006. The documentary „Malaysia for me is...” explores the recent “boom” in the number of African students in Malaysia. The filmmaker Melanie Gärtner and Alexandra Samokhvalova, a researcher in the project “Africa’s Asian Options” – AFRASO – at Goethe University Frankfurt accompany the four protagonists to get a glimpse into their daily lives. The four students, who come from different African countries (Namibia, Tanzania, Guinea and Chad), talk about their experiences of studying and living in multi-ethnic and multi-cultural Malaysia. Having different backgrounds, they offer diverse perspectives on the “phenomenon” of recent increase in the number of African students in the country. They also share their personal reasons – the so called “push & pull factors”, which helped them to decide in favor of Malaysia as their study destination. Kaiho and Jenny, students from Namibia and Tanzania, mention affordable tuition fees and relatively low living costs; while Youssouf from Chad stresses the importance of welcoming policies of the government and an international image of Malaysia as a forward-looking and peaceful Islamic nation as important reasons for him to choose Malaysia. The students also talk about their future plans and opportunities back home, which a Malaysian degree could bring. Besides, the film touches upon the issue of discrimination and negative image of African students in Malaysia, which the protagonists describe as one of the main challenges of staying in the country. Thus Moustafa, a student of Guinean origin, who has lived in Malaysia his whole life, explains how he fits into the local society and tries to play the role of a “stereotype breaker” in attempt to change the attitude towards Africans in the country.
Despite stories about discrimination and other challenges of living in Malaysia, the students leave the impression of being satisfied with their living conditions and the quality of higher education. Moustafa even calls Malaysia his second home. Even though opinions about future growth of African students’ population in Malaysia differ among the protagonists, the film manages to show that Africans play a big role in the internationalization of higher education in Malaysia and will most likely continue to come in search for better chances in life at low cost.
“Malaysia for me is…” is a documentary film by Melanie Gärtner, which was produced in cooperation with Alexandra Samokhvalova, a researcher at the Frankfurt Inter-Center-Programme on new Asian-African interactions AFRASO (Africa’s Asian Options). With the support of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), AFRASO carries out research on various topics of African-Asian interactions, including migration of African students to Malaysia.

The hard facts about global warming - a defining issue of our time.
Climate change is happening now, and even world leaders meeting for climate talks at this year’s Cop25 know we aren’t doing enough to stop it.
In fact, we’re going backwards. The UN says carbon dioxide levels in our atmosphere are going up, and the earth is on track to warm by 3.2 degrees before the century is over. The consequences of that acceleration are already proving disastrous for communities around the world.
This week’s episode of Start Here cuts through the science and the politics, to get you what you need to know about what’s at stake for the planet.

Comets Asteroids and Meteors are all over the solar system. But did you know that each are quite different? You may be wondering "What is a comet?", "What is an asteroid made of?", or "Where does a meteor come from?" Well, sit tight because in this video we will answer all of your questions!

We first take a closer look at asteroids for kids. Asteroids are the largest of the space rocks, but may also
include metal substances. Most of them go around the Sun
between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. The area of orbit is
called the Asteroid Belt, which includes an inner and an outer
region. The inner region is made up of asteroids that mostly
contain metal (Gold, Iron, Platinum, and Nickel). The outer region contains asteroids mostly made
up of rocks.

We then explain what a comet is. You can think of a comet
as a large snowball filled with or covered by dust, metal, and debris. They have an icy core, covered by a
layer of black dust. The center is mainly composed of water and gases, frozen and mixed together with bits
of rock and metal. A comet in the outer parts of the Solar System is too small to be seen from Earth. We then talk about the difference between short and long period comets.

Lastly, we explore Meteors, meteoroids, and meteorites. Meteors are sometimes called falling or shooting stars, and they begin
as meteoroids traveling through the Earth’s atmosphere. They are not
stars. They are small pieces of rock or metal originating from a comet or
asteroid. They form from colliding asteroids of debris from comets. A meteorite is a meteoroid that does not burn
up in the Earth’s atmosphere, but instead, falls to
the Earth’s surface.
