A new TV series "Taxi Tigui" is gaining popularity in Mali. A taxi in the comedy known as F-One transports passengers of different walks of life and the public can identify themselves with each of the passengers.

The producers of the movie hope the comedy will be able to increase the local consumption of African movies at a time when African households find pleasure in watching series from South America.

Engély Guindo is a farmer in Amba, a village not far from Mopti, in Northern Mali. He was approached by members of the Near East Foundation office in Sévaré about the benefits of planting a tree plantation. So he did, and after a while began to see the benefits of the trees. He mentions the fruit, wood, and shade, but does not mention that the trees grow faster after cutting them down and reproduce from stumps. The trees also become fully grown in four years, a very fast amount of time, that enables the locals to increase their food and increase their income.

Since clashes between armed rebels and government forces erupted in northern Mali in early 2012, hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes. The hostilities have added to the woes of the civilian population, already severely affected by the drought and food insecurity that prevails in the Sahel region. The situation deteriorated further in March, when elements of the Malian armed forces carried out a coup. The Tuareg rebel group,Mouvement National de Libération de l'Azawad (MNLA), and its Islamist allies seized this opportunity to declare the secession of northern Mali. However, the Islamists soon overwhelmed the MNLA and took control of most of the north, including cities such as Timbuktu.

Basic services are no longer provided to the population, and violations of human rights have been reported. As a result of the presence of heavily armed groups, northern Mali is largely inaccessible to humanitarian actors. This situation triggered the internal displacement of an estimated 204,000 while more than 200,000 Malians have found refuge in neighbouring Mauritania, Niger and Burkina Faso. UNHCR has had to sharply increase its presence in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.

Kuwait’s economy is dominated by fossil fuel exports but as the temperature rises more and more of Kuwait is becoming desert and it becomes harder to live with the extreme heat.

With the mercury topping 53C, three Kuwaiti citizens - an influencer, a weather forecaster and a retired civil servant - raise the alarm with concerns about “how much longer we can consider Kuwait habitable” 

They urge that Kuwait must not be allowed to get any hotter - and one of them has a solution to offer.

African Drumming Documentary

The documentary was produced by Nqobile "Q" Mafu. African drumming is our final year project. The documentary talks about the history of djembe and how djembe is made. The documentary will give an insight of a djembe and its use. The djembe has a great cultural heritage in Africa. Although similar in cultural use and significance too many countries and tribes on the African continent.
It has become extremely sought after in the Western world and is regarded as the most popular. This drum has inspired master drum makers now found all over the world. A djembe (jem-be) (also spelled djembé, jembe, jenbe, djimbe, jimbe, or dyinbe) is a rope-tuned skin-covered drum played with bare hands. According to the Bamana people in Mali, the name of the djembe comes from the saying "Anke djé, anke bé" which translates to "everyone gather together in peace" and defines the drum's purpose. The djembe is a goblet-shaped, West-African hand drum from 11" to 14" in diameter and about 24" in height. Technically, it belongs to the family of musical instruments known as membranophones, because it consists of a shell covered by a membrane of rawhide, usually derived from goat or cow. Ideally, the shell is hand-carved from a single piece of hardwood that results in a Helmholtz resonator, giving it a deep-throated bass.
