Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report talks to Dalia al-Aqidi (Journalist, Republican Candidate) about why she is challenging Rep Ilhan Omar for her congressional seat in the fifth district of Minnesota. Dalia is a Muslim refugee who grew up in Iraq under Saddam Hussein. She describes how she immigrated to the US when she was 20 and was welcomed by America. She shares her concerns about groups like CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) and how they worked with and groomed congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib. She reveals how CAIR is a front for the Muslim Brotherhood and is working to train many more candidates in the same progressive mold. Daila also describes why the term islamophobia is deployed as a tactic to silence critics. She describes how she is immune to Ilhan Omar’s identity politics because she is also a Muslim immigrant. Because of this she has the ability to ask Omar about her connections to Recep Tayyip Erdogan the President of Turkey, as well as CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood. She also details some of the absurd lies of Ilhan Omar such as the time she voted against a Somali aid package, but then praised the bill in a press conference after the vote. Dalia also shares her concerns about the reputations of good, hard working Muslim immigrants in the US being damaged by the policies and actions of Ilhan Omar. Dalia also gives her take on some of the accusations against Ilhan Omar including the federal investigation into the possibility that she committed immigration fraud. Dalia also shares how she is deeply concerned about the identity politics that are being used on the left because she feels that it only breeds more hatred and division in America.
Dalia will join Dave Rubin on stage in Minneapolis during the Don't Burn This Book Tour. Tickets here: https://www1.ticketmaster.com/....event/06005855DB3DC5

Renewed violence in South Sudan, rising malnutrition in Somalia and a dramatic refugee exodus from Eritrea conspire to undermine sporadic progress in the Horn of Africa. Underlying it all is a political marketplace fueled by money and power. The U.S. Institute of Peace invites you to join regional experts, including Alex de Waal, author of "The Real Politics of the Horn of Africa: Money, War and the Business of Power", for a panel discussion on January 28 on the complex interplay between politics and money in the region and the implications for the international community.
For more information about this event, visit: http://www.usip.org/events/mon....ey-war-and-the-busin
The Horn of Africa has experienced both advances and setbacks in recent years. In South Sudan, the hope following independence has been tarnished by the outbreak of war and the troubled peace process. In Somalia, al-Shabab and rising malnutrition slows progress on state building. And Eritreans fleeing their country’s oppression accounted for the third-largest group of refugees entering Europe last year, after Syria and Afghanistan. Across the Horn of Africa, corruption, militarization and military patronage undermine regional stability and sustainable peace.
This panel will bring together some of the foremost experts on the Horn of Africa to examine these factors and offer recommendations for how the international community can constructively support efforts to reduce fragility and corruption and improve good governance and stability in the region.

Migration from the Middle East and North Africa to Europe has reached mass proportions in the last few years. https://www.gresham.ac.uk/lect....ures-and-events/migr
This is only the most recent development in a long history of population movements into, out of and within the Continent. Beginning with the story of European migration to other parts of the world, the largest mass migration in history, that took on immense proportions in the nineteenth century, the lecture goes on to discuss the repeated experiences of forced population exchanges, flight, and ethnic cleansing in Europe in the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. By examining this wider historical context we can begin to discern common features of migrants and refugees in many different situations, assess the problems they pose to receiving countries, and analyse how these countries have succeeded or failed in the attempt to assimilate large populations of immigrants.
The transcript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the Gresham College website: https://www.gresham.ac.uk/lect....ures-and-events/migr
Gresham College has been giving free public lectures since 1597. This tradition continues today with all of our five or so public lectures a week being made available for free download from our website. There are currently over 2,000 lectures free to access or download from the website.

Dr. Roger Durham presents at Aquinas College about the Arab Spring and the impact on US foreign policy.
Step behind the scenes and get a glimpse of the thinking motivating the digital world’s greatest artists, thinkers and doers. Researcher Lorenzo Pezzani is our speaker in June.
What really happens on our oceans?
Following our exhibition of Tobias Revell’s The Monopoly of Legitimate Use, which looks at migration, state and borders, researcher Lorenzo will talk on his ongoing project, Forensic Oceanography. This research project critically investigates the militarised border regime in the Mediterranean Sea, mapping the liquid geographies of maritime jurisdictions in order to document the violence perpetrated against migrants at sea. Among other cases, Forensic Oceanography maps the fluid cartographies between Libya and Italy to understand how more than 1500 persons could have perished at sea in the Spring of 2011.

Why African Nations Look to China and Russia Instead of the USA.
Why Africa Chooses China and Russia Over The USA.
Since the 1940s, many African countries have built solid relations with Russia and China. These engagements extend from deepening ties in North Africa, extending its reach in the Central African Republic, and the Sahel, as well as in the southern parts of the continent.
African countries firmly support China in its endeavor for national unification, and most of them support her “One China” policy.
Russia and China have carried out many exchanges in the fields of economy, politics, and planning in Africa.
That is why today, we shall be looking at why Africa will stand firm with Russia and China.
There is also one thing you will like to note before we get to more details. Africa has suffered many atrocities from Western nations from pre-colonial times to the early 2 thousand, and so, standing firm with Russia and China could serve as a means of protecting African nations from future molestation.
China and Russia are, however, pursuing different strategies toward Africa, but share a convergent goal of bolstering authoritarian regimes and undermining U.S. and European influence over the continent.
This is clearly seen through their commercial, financial, and military engagements, which all aim to accelerate a shift in Africa from Western influence to the East.

With ISIS’ continued push to recruit and radicalize around the globe, this hearing will examine the current threat ISIS affiliates and supporters pose to U.S. interests and allies in Southeast Asia. Multiple recent terrorist attacks and public declarations of allegiance by local militant groups, and a growing number of ISIS fighters in Iraq and Syria from the region, demonstrate the potential danger this poses.
Experts in transnational, interdisciplinary, and intersectional conducted a conversation about immigration -- defined to include the experiences of undocumented immigrants, refugees, and radicalized second-generation descendants of immigrants – and engagement with the national political climate following the U.S. Presidential election and changes in the European Union. The conversation stemmed from the diverse background of speakers and articulate what role the University might play in this political moment.

SECRETARY-GENERAL - HUMAN RIGHTS REPORT
Today, as he launched a new report highlighting the centrality of human rights to the COVID-19 response and recovery, the Secretary-General said the pandemic is far more than a public health emergency. It is a human, economic and social crisis that is fast becoming a human rights crisis.
The virus has exposed deep weaknesses in the delivery of public services, the Secretary-General said, and we must make sure that they are properly addressed in the response.
The 22-page policy brief highlights areas of concerns and lays out a series of recommendations to, among other things, ensure the availability and quality of health care for everyone; and also to promote people-centred economic responses that adequately support those most affected by the loss of their livelihoods.
In his message, the Secretary-General added that, looking ahead, we need to build back better.
He also called on governments to be transparent, and responsive and accountable. Civic space and press freedom are critical, he added, and civil society organizations as well as the private sector have essential roles to play.
By respecting human rights in this time of crisis, we will build more effective and inclusive solutions for the emergency of today and the recovery of tomorrow, the Secretary-General concluded.
WORLD IMMUNIZATION WEEK
Ahead of World Immunization Week, which begins tomorrow, the World Health Organization (WHO) today warned that shutting down immunization services during the pandemic could lead to a resurgence of vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles and polio. WHO pointed to last year’s deadly measles outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, during which 6,000 people died as it was facing the largest Ebola outbreak at the same time.
ECOSOC FORUM
This morning, the Secretary-General took part in the virtual meeting of the 2020 ECOSOC FORUM on “Financing Sustainable Development in the Context of COVID-19.”
In his remarks, he said that the unprecedented scale of the current crisis demands an unprecedented response. He reiterated his three-point Call to Action, which entails taking decisive action through a global coordinated response, adopting measures to tackle the devastating socioeconomic consequences and ensuring that the global recovery leads to a more sustainable future.
He emphasized the need for a global stimulus package that is a double-digit percentage of global GDP. He added that developing countries need massive and urgent support and that now is the time to stand by our commitment and leave no one behind.
The Secretary-General also advocated for a debt moratorium and said the G20 initiative to suspend debt service payments for the poorest countries is a critical first step.
