Located in Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s tallest mountain at about 5,895 meters (19,340 feet). It is the largest free-standing mountain rise in the world, meaning it is not part of a mountain range.

Also called a stratovolcano (a term for a very large volcano made of ash, lava, and rock), Kilimanjaro is made up of three cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. Kibo is the summit of the mountain and the tallest of the three volcanic formations. While Mawenzi and Shira are extinct, Kibo is dormant and could possibly erupt again. Scientists estimate that the last time it erupted was 360,000 years ago. The highest point on Kibo’s crater rim is called Uhuru, the Swahili word for “freedom.” The mountain is also known for its snow-capped peak; however, scientists warn that the snow might disappear within the next 20 years or so.

The trek begins at Machame Gate, located in the southern base of mountain, which is just a short drive from Moshi or Arusha.

The hike starts within Kilimanjaro’s lush, fertile, montane rainforest. As you might expect, the lower slopes receive quite a bit of precipitation. The trail may be steep and slippery, so trekking poles are advised. As the route heads toward the Shira Plateau, the trees disappear and are replaced by low brush in the heather zone.

Then, the route climbs high to the volcanic plug, Lava Tower, before dropping and circling below the South Icefield. This circular pathway from Barranco to Karanga to Barafu is known as the southern circuit. As it traverses halfway around the mountain, climbers are exposed to great vistas.

The long, strenuous approach to the summit is made from the east through endless switchbacks up increasingly loose gravel until we reach the crater rim at a mark known as Stella Point. Then the route is relatively flat for another hour to Uhuru Peak – the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. The quick descent follows the Mweka trail.

TANZANIA continued to cement its status as among the world’s best tourism destinations after scooping the Best International Wildlife Destination award at the Outlook Travellers Awards (OLTA) held in India at the weekend.

The country achieved the feat ahead of its wildlife tourism rivals South Africa and Kenya, in OLTA’s 2020 edition announced in New Delhi on Sunday.

In his acceptance speech, Tanzania High Commissioner to India, Mr Baraka Luvanda said the award will further cement the country’s status as one of the best global travel destinations.

“We believe that through this award and the Outlook Traveller Magazine’s, more people will be able to know about destination Tanzania and what it has to offer to a wide spectrum of clientele  as one of Africa’s leading travel destination,” said the envoy in a speech posted on Tanzania’s High Commission website.

He told the delegates gathered at the high profile event that Tanzania will not be carried away with the feat; instead take a lead role in marketing its tourism destinations as well strategizing on tapping from emerging markets from the traditional ones

Hunting For Lions and Wild Animals in Africa, Tanzania Safari!

A Tanzania safari is something special, whatever your age, budget, interests or previous safari experience. Almost a third of this vast and spectacular country is protected for wildlife viewing, and these areas include some of the best and most varied safari locations in the world. This is a region of incredible natural beauty with a fantastic range of landscape and terrain.

An African safari involves several wildlife game drives, staying in remote locations, and observing the behavior and survival skills of Nature’s inhabitants. The novice explorer chooses to be electronically unplugged from the modern world, no fast food chain restaurants, no vehicular traffic, no crowds of people, no manmade noises - an alien world in today’s fast-paced, modern hurly burly. Each day on safari is a series of spontaneous, unexpected, natural events.

Hey Bandits! We are going to TANZANIA and we are very excited! We started our journey in Mauritius where we flew to Nairobi, Kenya. We had a 10-12 hour layover here. Later that day we flew to Dar Es Salaam and it took us 14 hours in total! We took a taxi to our apartment (and this is going to be the most we pay for a taxi btw). Anyway, the next day we were hungry so we went to a street vendor, called Lilly's. You should go to her for some killer meat samosas. After, we decided to go to the National Museum and House of Culture. It was very interesting, informative, and fun. They have a lot of history starting from the first humans that lived in Africa to recent political events. At last, we took a tuk-tuk back to our apartment and that was our first full day in Dar es Salaam.

Located along the coast of the Indian Ocean, Dar es Salaam is the largest city in Tanzania and home to a wide range of people and cultures. Known for its beaches, islands, seafood and music, the city is brimming with a variety of activities for every type of tourist. Here are a few of the best things to see while visiting the City of Peace. Dar es Salaam, a major city and commercial port on Tanzania’s Indian Ocean coast, grew from a fishing village. The open-air Village Museum has re-created the traditional homes of local and other Tanzanian tribes and hosts tribal dancing. It’s part of the National Museum, which offers Tanzanian history exhibits, including the fossils of human ancestors found by anthropologist Louis Leakey.

Some of those places include askari monument, mbudya island, kivukoni fish market, dar es salaam museum and house of culture, kariakoo market,

Once a year, the wildebeest in the Serengeti-Mara will migrate in a circle of 500 to 1,000 miles. The migration begins in the southeastern Serengeti after their calves are born in January and February. Then they travel across the short-grass plains before reaching Lake Victoria. Once there, they travel towards open woodlands before reaching the Mara in the north. Eventually, the wildebeests will return home to the south. Because these animals cross plains in large numbers and swim across large bodies of water, many separate from the herd, become injured, or even die during their massive trek.
