President Cyril Ramaphosa says some economic gains have been made through an initiative aimed at creating black industrialists. Ramaphosa was speaking at the Black Industrialist and Exporters Conference yesterday. He's says that while there has been some headway made, the transformation efforts have been slow and weak.

Government says it has made enormous progress in transforming the skewed and racially-structured economy. Speaking at the inaugural Black Industrialist and Exporters conference, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that there are now over 300-thousand black owned formal business in South Africa -- who own half of the SMMEs in the formal sector. This from around 150-thousand black-owned formal business in 1994.

The objective of the briefing is to provide details on the forthcoming Black Industrialists and Black Exporters Conference, scheduled to take place on 20 July 2022 at the Sandton Convention Centre. The Conference will be opened by HE President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The Conference will identify progress in transformation in the economy, and provide information on efforts to increase exports, growth and job creation by black industrialists. It will also feature an exhibitors ‘market-place’ with industrialists showcasing their products. The event will recognise excellence in business with Awards that will be given to business persons.

Among other objectives, the Black Industrialists and Exporters Conference will further highlight and showcase the importance of the Africa Free Continental Trade Area (AfCTA) in enhancing economic development and promoting intra-trade on the continent.

The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Namalungelo Gina says Digital Transformation Programme for Black Industrialists will help a great deal in supporting Industrialists under the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) programme to unlock their potential through digital transformation within their business in South Africa. Gina was speaking at the launch of the programme hosted in Mandeni, KwaZulu-Natal.

Gina said Microsoft South Africa has entered into partnership with the dti to help Black Industrialists into bridging this gap in running their businesses.
