The king of Eswatini has labelled anti-monarchy protesters as "satanic" and has appointed a new prime minister, ignoring calls for democratic reforms.
At least 27 people have reportedly been killed since the demonstrations began in June.

Taxi operators have joined pro-democracy protests in Eswatini, while the Swaziland Youth Congress plans to intensify the protest action. Last week, learners took to the streets, calling for democratic reform in the tiny kingdom. Several properties, including 80 schools, were torched and learners assaulted.

At least 47 people have been killed in an explosion in Matsung, in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province.
More than 60 others were injured.

A delegation from Southern Africa's regional bloc is due to arrive in Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, on a fact-finding mission.
For days, Eswatini, Africa’s last absolute monarchy, has been rocked by the largest pro-democracy protests in years that have seen security forces engage mostly young demonstrators defying an overnight curfew in running street battles.
The protests were sparked by a June 24 decree by King Mswati III, banning citizens from sending petitions to parliamentarians to demand democratic reforms. It followed a public outcry against the alleged killing by the police of a law student, Thabani Nkomonye, in May.

Formerly known as Swaziland, the country has been rocked in recent weeks by anti-monarchy protests calling for King Mswati III, Africa's last absolute monarch, to have his powers diluted. 

Protests turned violent, with reports suggesting there have been more than 50 deaths and countless casualties so far at the hands of state security forces. The Guardian spoke to Mbuyisa, who described his experience of being beaten by the police after they accused him of reporting illegally, and explained why protesters are calling for more democracy in Eswatini.

In his first comments since the unrest began, the king called the protests 'satanic' and said they had taken the country backwards.

The Swaziland Solidarity Network is accusing King Mswati the third of killing renowned human rights lawyer and activist Thulani Maseko. Maseko was shot dead at his home in Luyengo, south of Mbabane in the Kingdom of Eswatini on Saturday night. He was also the chairperson of the pro-democracy Multi-Stakeholder Forum. Meanwhile, the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini has expressed condolences to the family of the human rights lawyer.

Swaziland Journalist Zweli Dlamini has been accused of terrorism by the eSwatini monarchy. The events date back to 2021 when the monarchy was shaken by pro-democracy protests where dozens of civilians were killed. The Eswatini government accused Dlamini's publication of supporting the Swaziland International Solidarity Forces during the protests. They have now asked the Mpumalanga High Court to intervene.

Pro-democracy groupings in the kingdom of Eswatini have boycotted the national dialogue called by King Mswati the third. The national dialogue - Sibaya - was called following weeks of civil unrest in the kingdom. Instead, the groups organised a march in Manzini. They are demanding political reforms among others. Security forces swiftly dispersed the protesters.

The two members of Parliament arrested in Eswatini, say they want free and fair elections by 2023. Bacede Mabuza and Mthandenbi Dube were arrested on Sunday. They are facing charges of terrorism and contravention of the COVID-19 regulations. They are two of the three MPs who have been calling for democratic reform in that country. The people of eSwatini go to the polls today to elect a new parliament.
Political parties are banned from the election in the former Swaziland, which is ruled by one of the world' s last absolute monarchs, King Mswati the third.
Without warning or consultation, he changed the country's name from Swaziland to eSwatini earlier this year.
Winners from the 59 constituency ballots will take their seats in parliament, along with 10 lawmakers that the king appoints directly.
He also appoints the prime minister and cabinet, and is constitutionally above the law.
