Reliable armed forces' power is necessary for any progressive state seeking to protect its borders and interests.

Global Fire Power is an organization that is widely known for having a fairly accurate understanding of the militaries in the world. Interesting findings from the organization reveals that Africa is a hotspot of power in the modern world. GFP concluded on this fact after assessing 138 nations, among them 24 from Africa.

These respectable troops are the reason why the continent (Africa) no longer welcomes exploiters as it was the case years back.

The following are factors that determine:
i) power index - the probability of changing an outcome of a vote where voting rights are not necessarily equally divided among the voter/shareholders
ii) man power - The number of members serving in the army unit
iii) air power - Total aircraft strength, fighters and interceptors, attack aircraft, transports, trainers, total helicopters, attack helicopters, and serviceable airports.
iv) army strength - Combat tanks, armored fighting vehicles, self-propelled artillery, towed artillery, and rocket projectors.
v) naval power - Presence of a powerful naval force
vi) financial resources - Annual defense budgets
vii) Flexibility when it comes to logistics
viii) natural resources - Oil production, oil consumption and proven oil reserves.
ix) geography - Square land areas, coastline, shared borders, and waterway coverage.
Today we are going to talk about the African Top 10 military Superpowers.

In this video, I present to you the Top 5 Strongest African Militaries. The Global fire Ranks countries in the world every year according to their military strength and fire power. In their ranking of African countries with military strength and fire power, up to 40 different tools and parameters like number of active front line and active personnels, number of tanks and amourred fighting vehicles, aircrafts like fighter/inceptors and helicopter, naval strength and coastal defense craft, resources and defence budget, logistics and many other factors. These criterias are use in such an approach that a smaller country with good military intelligence competes favourably well with highly populated countries with lots of great foot soldiers while land lock countries are not penalized for lack of an active navy. It is important to note that the military strength of a country is not only determined on the size of her ammunitions.

5. ANGOLA
Angola is the 7th largest country in Africa with a population of over 21 million people and is located in south central Africa. The Angola Armed Forces has three components: the army, the navy, and the air force. The eggs from what the President calls the “Golden Goose” which are the oil wells have allowed Angola to fund a large military budget.Angola currently has an active force of up to 100,000 troops The equipment it uses is as follows: 59 fighter aircraft, by 585 armoured fighting vehicles, 56 attack aircraft, 15 attack helicopters, 244 combat tanks, 115 rocket projectors, 538 armored fighting vehicles, 332 towed artillery, 38 naval patrol craft, etc. With a budget for defence at $4,150,000,000, Angola is sure to continue to see a strong military growth.
4. NIGERIA
It appears it has taken a decade of jihadist violence and other internal security issues for one of Africa’s strongest military forces to be considered tested. For some reasons, Nigeria’s military warfare against terrorists in its North-east region is not yielding the expected result – ending the terrorism. Although the North-east conflict is an ideological war fought by jihadists who have employed guerrilla tactics of hit-and-run to prolong total victory, there may be other reasons why Nigeria is not winning the war. Agreeably, there has been a nationwide spike in security issues continually begging for the attention and engagement of Nigeria’s military forces already stretched thin in the war against terror in the North-east region. Nigeria has an estimate of 120,000 active personnel in the military forces from an over 200 million population. Pakistan, as populated as Nigeria and also battling with terrorism, has a military strength of 1,204,000 personnel and 550,000 as reserves
3. SOUTH AFRICA
For 2020, South Africa is ranked 29 of 138 out of the countries considered for the annual GFP review. It holds a PwrIndx* rating of 0.4985
2. ALGERIA
For 2020, Algeria is ranked 28 of 138 out of the countries considered for the annual GFP review. It holds a PwrIndx* rating of 0.4659
1. EGYPT
For 2020, Egypt is ranked 9 of 138 out of the countries considered for the annual GFP review. It holds a PwrIndx* rating of 0.1872

If you see anything about Nigeria's near rise you'll see it compared to a far away nation of China. As China gives more jobs to Nigeria many people see similarities as to how China got so big. But will Nigeria's population rise and global power growth mimic those seen in China, or are there other factors at play? How will Nigeria face against the future?

Top Chinese, Russian and American officials have recently sent senior officials to visit Africa, a development that analysts say is a scramble between global superpowers to see who can capture the attention of the youngest and the world’s fastest-growing continent.

Despite allegations of competition, representatives of Beijing, Moscow and Washington all insist that they do not regard Africa as an arena to compete and instead are looking to invest into and collaborate with the continent. For more, VOA’s Anita Powell reports.
