While African countries do the bulk of their international trade with Europe and America, very little intra African trade is taking place. This is compared to Europe's intra continental trade of 60 percent, and 40 percent in North America. So why are African countries not trading more with each other?

The Pan South African Language Board (Pansalb), in association with media research company Focal Points, have shortlisted candidates for the 2023 South African Word of the Year. The winning word or term was announced on Monday.

Top 10 Contemporary African Authors

According to the Cash-In-Transit Association of SA, 217 CIT robberies occurred nationally between January and August 2023.

On Friday four suspected cash-in-transit robbers were killed in a shootout with police at a house in KwaMashu in the north of Durban.

They are believed to have been involved in a number of cash-in-transit heists in the area, recently. Just yesterday robbers cornered and blew up yet another cash-in-transit vehicle along the N12 near Diepkloof, Soweto.

While writing is normally a solitary profession, occasionally literary connections between great authors spark fiery, creative tension and sometimes storytelling brilliance.

This film is the tale of two such connections, both in North Africa in the mid-twentieth century.

The first is about the French writer, Jean Genet, and the Moroccan novelist, Mohamed Choukri.

Both were brought up in dysfunctional circumstances, devoid of life’s advantages, but managed to overcome their troubled early lives.

They met in Tangier where both rose to become leading, modern literary figures and lifelong friends.

The second tells the compelling story of the conflicting lives of Nobel laureate Albert Camus and author Kateb Yacine, set against the violent backdrop of the Algerian War of Independence.

The African continent has produce some of the best authors and writers in the 21st century, their books and novels are known and being used in at some of the best colleges and universities around the world depicting the great stories from the African continent.
