The Liberian government has accepted that its healthcare system simply can't cope with the scale of the pandemic and is calling on international partners for urgent assistance. Of the 1335 active members in groups, each district has various groups that include beekeeping, business associations, trade groups, tailoring groups, farming groups, goat keeping, cattle, poultry, pig rearing, crop growing, and crafting. Tailoring and craft groups have been able to continue making items such as necklaces and bags that they can sell even during periods of lockdown due to COVID-19.

Afrobeats, Azonto, Kuduro and South African House are club music styles based on traditional rhythms, becoming a means of expressing the identity for an entire generation. This is rock'n'roll happening to Africa - and spreading to the rest of the whole world. Get the rhythm and the rhymes of modern African urban music and rediscover it in international music trends. Fonko is a documentary television series about social and political change in Africa seen through an avalanche of striking, innovative and visual music. Music however, is only one aspect of a dramatic social change. Senegal, on the western tip of Africa, has been a cultural crossroads for ages. Today the capital Dakar is the unrivalled centre for the West African hip hopscene. Taking it's influences from, Paris, New york as well as local sources, the hip hop movement has shaped the political history of Senegal. Music in Senegal is rooted in the daily life and political upheavals of the country. The Senegalese music scene experienced a real revolution under the presidency of the poet Leopold Sédar Senghor, who led a policy promoting the local and cultural identity of the Senegalese. It is in this context that was born the most listened and popular musical style of Senegal, Mbalax. A musical style influenced by Wolof culture and drums, pioneered by Youssou N'dour. Music is a way in this West African country to assert a cultural identity specific to the country, which wants to be independent from Europe or the United States.
In addition, Senegal meets another important musical wave with the rap, of which it becomes one of the biggest scenes of the continent. Rappers have turned rap into an instrument of counter-power in this country with a turbulent political history. Rap conveys political messages, a way to educate people and to incite them to vote. Rap constitutes as a counter power, mirror views of the new generation. Influenced above all by the Burkinabe political icon, Thomas Sankara, music in Senegal seeks to change the system and daily life by asserting a self-reliant and independent African identity.
Through this documentary, we meet many Senegalese artists including: Youssou N'dour, Carlou D, Didier Awadi, Sister Fa, Daara J and many more

LESSON PREVIEW In this lesson I am going to show you the two conga patterns used for playing the traditional version of the Cuban Mozambique rhythm, invented by Pello El Afrokan, Mozambique was a rhythm arrangement, dance craze in cuba and NY and also a music genre pioneered by the late great Pello El Aforkan. I got a chance to meet, study and film Pello in 1985 in Cuba where I learned this rhythm from him. This is the traditional version and not the NYC version in the 60's made popular by Mr. Eddie Palmieri. Mozambique peaked in 1965, when Pello took a group to the Olympics in Paris.
We are going to learn the rhythm using build up method (a little bit at a time) as well as slow motion and front and rear angles as well. I am also going to show you how to enter the rhythm and play the rhythm with cuban rumba clave.

They work in schools to promote kindness to animals. They meet with communities-where their staff members live-to create kind communities. It is only because of this intensive, ongoing, widespread work that they are able to influence the way animals are treated. AKI donors support LAWCS's work by paying stipends for LAWCS staff (approx US$50-70/month/person), covering rent for their office/clinic (US$50/month), and providing funds to purchase medicines and supplies for the clinic, food for their animal feeding programs, motorbike maintenance so LAWCS staff can move around, and any other LAWCS priority needs.
