On our next webinar, we will be hosting climate activists from Just Stop Oil and a climate activist from Nigeria to understand and gain insights on covering climate activism. But there is a group of climate activists who are grabbing massive media attention. They are called “Just Stop Oil,” and they are forcing everyone in areas where they operate to pay attention to the threat that fossil fuels pose to the environment. By using civil resistance and direct action, the group’s goal is for the British government to commit to halting new fossil fuel licensing and production. We will be hosting the team on our next webinar, focused on climate activism. Our panelists include Fiona Atkinson, who has worked in secondary and higher education in English and teacher training. A grandmother, she left teaching to immerse herself in climate campaigning. After supporting the Extinction Rebellion, she became a spokesperson for Insulate Britain and is now doing all she can to help Just Stop Oil communicate their vital message as widely as possible. We will also be joined by Grahame Buss, who holds a PhD in engineering and worked for Shell for most of his paid career, where he was a principal scientist. Buss became increasingly concerned about the climate crisis, and said he tried to make changes in the business with like-minded colleagues. Realizing they had no material impact, he then joined an environmental consultancy and after retiring from paid employment, he joined Extinction Rebellion. That led to his support for Just Stop Oil, where he believes that he can make a difference. We will also be joined by Olumide Idowu, who is a Nigerian youth campaigner and climate change activist. He is the co-founder of the International Climate Change Development Initiative, Climate Wednesday and Nigerian Youth Climate Coalition.
