Ghana - GTV News Report, 31-12-2008 - Nana Akufo-Addo
This clip is from the Ghana TV station, GTV, on their nightly news service. Dated the 31/12/2008, the report is regarding Nana Akufo-Addo, who was the candidate from the sitting New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2008 Presidential Elections. He comments on inconsistencies & fraud after the second round of voting, which saw him trailing in the votes against John Atta-Mills of the opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
While Akufo-Addo's arguments saw further voting in the Tain Constituency (Brong-Ahafo Region) to decide who the President Of Ghana would be, it was a whitewash, as Akufo-Addo received only about 10% of the vote there, and John Atta-Mills was elected.
The decision to force a decision from Tain was not well received, as Akufo-Addo would practically need every vote from the constituency to get close to Atta-Mills, but nontheless, he refused to concede at the time until Tain had voted. He eventually conceded on the 5th of January 2009, three days after the Tain constituency voted, and amongst some consternation from the public that he would not relinquish the challenge to Atta-Mills & the NDC.
