Hundreds of opposition supporters participated in the demonstration after the opposition leader, Raila Odinga, called for a mass protest demanding the resignation of the president, William Ruto.
Ruto came to power after the August 2022 elections, the results of which Odinga has since disputed.
Police responded to Monday's protest with teargas and shot live rounds into the air to disperse protesters who threw stones and set up barricades of burning tyres. Local media reported that at least one person was shot and several were arrested.
