Libya Corruption Allegation: Tripoli-Based Leader Dbeibeh Faults Audit Bureau Report
As Libya’s politics continues to take a different turn with each passing day, the leader of the Tripoli-based government, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, has accused the Audit Bureau of attempting to “tarnish” his government’s image after the publication of its 2021 report.
He made the remark during a cabinet meeting where he questioned the neutrality of the bureau’s chief Khale Al-Shakshak whom he said was his competitor in the presidential elections that failed to take place in December 2021.
The report which documents alleged misuse of public funds which was released two days ago contains allegations of corruption against multiple members of the Tripoli-based government including Dbeibeh himself.
Libya has been rocked by political instability since a NATO-backed uprising removed longtime ruler Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
