Owning a pet in Ghana is very different from pet ownership in the West. While people get dogs, cats and all sorts of animals as their pets in the west, people in Ghana mainly keep dogs and cats for security and pest control.
To get a pet in Ghana, the most common way is to contact someone who owns pets and the person may or may not charge you for the pet you get from them.
Nowadays, more people are buying their pets from pet shops because of security reasons. You will definitely have to pay for any pet you get from a pet shop but you will also know exactly what you are getting.
People also advertise their pets for sale on social media, usually Facebook and Instagram.
Dogs in Ghana are usually sold for 500gh - 3000gh depending on the breed and age.
