Well-known Lesotho businessman and philanthropists, Sam Matekane, is going into politics.
The 2021 Forbes Magazine winner of Africa's best entrepreneur, says his movement aims to rescue the country's ailing economy. With just under six months until national elections, Matekane has surrounded himself with heavy-weights, including the former Central Bank's Dr Retselisitsoe Matlanyane, and a former Chief Justice.
They vow to contest all of the country's eighty constituencies.

Lesotho's political parties have stepped up campaigning ahead of general elections later this year. A newly formed party, Revolution for Prosperity, has promised to strengthen ties with neighbouring South Africa. The party has launched its campaign, with leader, Sam Matekane, saying it's vital to have good working relations with South Africa. He has also promised to ensure that Lesotho participates in rebuilding Africa's economy. Matekane spoke to SABC News International Editor, Sophie Mokoena.

Lesotho's Independent Electoral Commission has completed the 2023 Local Government Elections process. While the official final poll result is yet to be gazetted, the IEC was able to confirm that the ruling Revolution For Prosperity (RFP) is leading the polls, closely followed by the opposition Democratic Congress.

Lesotho's first lady has appeared in court for her alleged role in the murder of her husband's previous wife.
Maesaiah Thabane is charged with ordering the killing of Dipolelo (Lipolelo) Thabane in 2017.
She has been granted bail but appeared in court in the capital Maseru for a pre-trial hearing.

The King of Lesotho is appointing a cabinet minister to run the country. That after the military's actions over the weekend caused the prime minister to flee to neighboring South Africa. Prime Minister Thomas Thabane called the military's disarming of police, a coup attempt, but an army spokesperson says the military only stepped in after hearing that police planned to arm political fanatics preparing a demonstration. VOA’s Laurel Bowman reports.
The newly formed political party in Lesotho, the Revolution For Prosperity, has garnered enough votes to form a coalition government.
The RFP fell short of the 50 plus one required for it to govern without other parties. The country's electoral commission has just announced the results.
At the same time, observer missions have released their preliminary reports of the 2022 National Assembly Elections.
The European and SADC observer missions have commended the kingdom for peaceful, free and fair elections.

The SADC Oversight Committee mandated to be an early warning mechanism for instability in Lesotho met the Speaker of the National Assembly on its second mission to the mountain kingdom.
The committee is also monitoring constitutional and security reforms, and the implementation of the recommendations of the Phumaphi Commission into the death of former army commander, Maaparakoe Mahao.

Maseru, 24 October 2014 - An agreement has been reached in Lesotho, bringing the Kingdom a step closer to constitutional normalcy. Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, who facilitated the talks, says the agreement will go a long way to bringing stability to the tiny mountain kingdom.

Lesotho Prime Minister Thomas Thabane is under renewed pressure to resign after appearing in court over the alleged murder of his estranged wife, Lipolelo Thabane.
Members of his party and the opposition want Thabane to step down before his planned retirement in July.

The suspects in the murder of a Lesotho Current Affairs Radio presenter, Ralikonelo “Leqhashasha” Joki, have been nabbed at the Maseru Bridge border post. The Lesotho Mounted Police had earlier confirmed arrest warrants for three Lesotho nationals who had fled to South Africa.
The three men were arrested as they attempted to return to Lesotho via Maseru Bridge.

Some Lesotho nationals living in Rustenburg in the North West are calling on the government of South Africa and Lesotho to scrap the borders separating the two countries, saying Lesotho should be made South Africa's tenth province. They say the borders that separate African countries are practices initiated by the apartheid regime with the aim of separating and oppressing Africans. This emerged during a meeting of the Basotho nationals held at Boitekong near Rustenburg.
