The government in Mozambique has called for international support to deal with an Islamic State insurgency.

Southern Africa leaders will gather in the Mozambican capital of Maputo over the next few days to try to hammer out plans to counter the growing threat of terrorism across the region.

The country’s President, Filipe Nyusi, says his government is working with their international partners to try to assess their needs after dozens of people are believed to have died when Islamists attacked a hotel complex in the town of Palma two weeks ago.

Sky News' special correspondent Alex Crawford reports from Palma in the north of Mozambique.

A court in Mozambique has sentenced the son of a former president, two ex-spy bosses, and eight others to years in prison for their part in a corruption scandal in which the government sought to conceal huge debts, triggering financial havoc.
The 11 were found guilty and sentenced on Wednesday on charges related to a $2bn “hidden debt” scandal which saw hundreds of millions of dollars in government-backed loans disappear and crashed the southern African nation’s economy.

Al Jazeera’s Kevin Calvert reports.

A lively debate has formed on social media and other platforms regarding the role of current President Nangolo Mbumba and whether Namibia's fourth president is deemed substantive or not.

With opinions divided, legal analyst Yarukeekuro Ndorokaze weighs in on the emerging narrative suggesting that Dr. Mbumba, who was sworn in according to Articles 29 (4)(a) and 34 of the Namibian Constitution, is merely acting in that role.

To discuss this matter and explore whether that argument holds any water, nbc News anchor Morris Kalunduka spoke to legal analyst Steven Yarukeekuro Ndorokaze.
