Namibia is a nation that rose from the world's oldest desert, where vast red dunes in Southern Africa meet the Atlantic Ocean.

According to the World Bank, progress towards reducing inequality has been slow and the country is considered one of the world's most unequal. Yet that could change, given the recent discovery of an estimated at one billion barrels of oil off its coast.

But could oil prove more of a curse than a blessing? We find out, as Namibia's President Hage Geingob talks to Al Jazeera.

Namibia's President Hage Geingob has died at the age of 82 while receiving medical treatment at a hospital in the capital Windhoek. A veteran of the country's independence struggle Mr Geingob had been diagnosed with cancer.

President of Namibia, Hage Geingob is dead. Vice President Nangolo Nbumba announced that President Geingob died in the earlier hours of Sunday surrounded by his immediate family.
President Hage Geingob had announced to the public that he was diagnosed of Cancer, about a month ago, after surviving cancer in 2014.
The 82 year old President Geingob, was elected into office in 2015, and is already in his 2nd term, as the country is due to hold its Presidential and Parliamentary elections in November.
President Hage Geingob is the 3rd President of Namibia and also the 1st Prime Minister after the country's independence in 1990.

Addressing a SWAPO Central Committee meeting Geingob called on party members to support the Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the presidential candidate for next year's election.
