Kenyan politicians are using millions of dollars to fight for political seats in the 2022 general election.

Attempts by the electoral body to cap campaign financing and contributions were thwarted by the national assembly in 2021.

How are politicians spending the money? What are the implications for the country's democracy?

BBC Africa's Ashley Ogonda explains.

More than 200 bodies have now been discovered in a Kenyan forest where followers of an evangelical pastor are thought to have starved themselves to death in the belief they could meet Jesus faster.

One woman, who fled the cult with her five children, said: "I told myself I couldn't allow my children to die.”

Survivors are still being found hiding under trees and bushes in the 800-acre territory, but hundreds more people are still missing.

Self-proclaimed pastor Paul Mackenzie is now in custody.

The Black Lives Matter protests in the UK and the debate over public statues have shone a light on the nation’s imperial past and its continuing reverberations.

Kenya was at the heart of the British Empire in Africa, with the country’s best and most fertile land owned by a small elite.

The country gained independence in 1963 but land ownership and distribution remains a divisive issue.

In the latest of a series of reports looking at Britain’s colonial legacies, Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting from Anne Soy in Kenya.

A BBC investigation has uncovered sexual exploitation on tea farms that supply some of the UK’s biggest brands.

More than 70 women on Kenyan tea farms, owned for years by two British companies, said they had been sexually abused by their supervisors.

Secret filming showed local bosses, on plantations owned by Unilever and James Finlay & Co, pressuring an undercover reporter for sex.

Three managers have now been suspended.

A section of Kenya Kwanza leaders led by prime cabinet secretary Musalia Mudavadi, national assembly speaker Moses Wetangula and majority leader Kimani Ichungwah have cautioned retired President Uhuru Kenyatta against engaging in politics warning that he risked losing out on the retirement benefits since the law bars a former president from engaging in politics 6 months after the polls.
The leaders said Kenyatta risks bringing disrepute to his stature, advising him to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors who avoided politics post retirement.
