A BBC investigation has discovered that political parties in Nigeria are secretly paying social media influencers to spread disinformation about their opponents ahead of general elections in February.
The BBC's Global Disinformation Team has spoken to whistle-blowers working for two of Nigeria's political parties, and prominent influencers who have described it as "an industry".
The whistle-blowers say parties give out cash, lavish gifts, government contracts and even political appointments for their work.

A Federal Government delegation led by the minister of state for Defence Bello Matawale together with the Chief of Defence staff, General Christopher Musa have visited victims of Sunday Nights drone strike by the Nigerian Army.
66 injured victims are still at the Barau Dikko teaching hospital where they are receiving medical attention.
Earlier the Army Chief Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja visited the victims promising that the Army will take care of their medical bills.
He also donated 10 million on behalf of the Force to the family members of affected victims

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja is in Kaduna to visit Tudun Biri village, where a Nigerian Army drone strike occurred on Sunday night during a gathering of villagers observing Maulud festivities.
On Monday, the Nigerian Army took responsibility for the drone strikes.
Major General VU Okoro, the General Officer Commanding One Division Nigerian Army, explained that the Army was conducting a routine mission against terrorists but inadvertently affected members of the community.
A family member of one of the victims estimated that more than 85 people died at the scene.

A Nigerian senator, his wife and a medical "middleman" have been jailed for conspiring to traffic a market trader to the UK to harvest his kidney.
Politician Ike Ekweremadu, 60, and his wife Beatrice, 56, stood trial accused of a conspiracy to bring the man to Britain from Lagos so he could provide an organ for their 25-year-old daughter Sonia Ekweremadu.
The couple, along with medical "middleman" Dr Obinna Obeta, 50, were found guilty of offences under the Modern Slavery Act at the Old Bailey in March.
Sonia Ekweremadu - who has a serious kidney condition - wept in court as she was cleared of the same charge.
Ekweremadu was jailed for nine years and eight months, his wife Beatrice was sentenced to four years and six months in prison, while Obeta received a 10-year prison term.
Passing sentence, the judge, Mr Justice Johnson, told the defendants: "In each of your cases the offence you committed is so serious that neither a fine nor a community sentence can be justified."

In Lagos, his Royal Majesty the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II was received by the Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu on Sunday at the Lagos House in Marina.
The traditional ruler who is one of the most revered monarchs in Nigeria congratulated the lagos state Governor on his re-election and commended his giant strides while charging him not to rest on his oars to achieve greater heights in his second term in office.
The Oba also noted that the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 presidential poll showed that God ordained him to rule the country, and called on all Nigerians to support his administration
The revered Monarch also commented on the history of Lagos, stating that Lagos was built by the people of Benin, a statement that has generated controversy in Nigeria, both in the past and currently.
As the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources continued its demolition exercise of houses built in contravention of the Lagos masterplan, many residents in the Abule Ado area of the state, were displaced over the weekend.
Chimobi Ezenwa, one of the residents affected in the demolition exercise, said his mansion worth N300 million Naira was destroyed without prior notice, rendering him and his family homeless.
