Africa's best police service is that of Botswana despite being ranked 47th best in the world. This is according to the World Internal Security and Police Index (WISPI) released by two bodies, the International Police Science Association (IPSA) and the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

Botswana's president Ian Khama has officially stepped down. The retired army general exited on Saturday handing the diamond-rich country to vice-president, Mokgweetsi Masisi.

Khama, a 65-year old bachelor, is known as a straight talker having publicly criticised leaders including US President Donald Trump for an alleged slur against African countries and former Zimbabwe's president Robert Mugabe as well DRC's Joseph Kabila for overstaying their welcome.

Botswana's new president, Mokgweetsi Masisi, has vowed to tackle youth unemployment in one of Africa's most stable countries.
In his inauguration speech on Sunday, after beING sworn as the country's 5th President, Masisi also pledged to improve treatment and prevention of HIV in a country with a 22 percent infection rate among adults.

Botswana president Seretse Khama Ian Khama was received in Berlin on Tuesday by German Chancellor, Angela Merkel.

The two leaders held talks one day before the African country co-hosts this year's Berlin International Tourism Fair, ITB.

Khama who is currently exiled in South Africa has previously denied that he possessed illegal firearms.
The warrant of arrest was granted by a regional magistrate in Broadhurst, Botswana.

The Presidents of Zimbabwe and Botswana have agreed on the free movement of their citizens.
People travelling between Zimbabwe and Botswana no longer need to use passports and a national from both countries can spend up to 90 days per year in the other country without using a passport or work visa or permit. The two countries have agreed that citizens will only need IDs to cross the border.
Botswana signed a similar agreement with Namibia earlier.
