BONAVA – Mauritania - Delicious african recipe - Mauritanie - Délicieuse recette africaine

🍍 🥑 🥘

Bonava is a dish that stems from the cultural richness and variety of Mauritania. A tasty traditional lamb and potato stew cooked slowly with this clever ingredient, vinegar, which gives it an excellent and particular taste, half sweet, half tangy.

Even if this dish looks like the "Tagine", without the same spices used by northern neighbours, Morocco and Tunisia, this recipe is rather inspired by Senegal as generally the south of Mauritania with this marinade similar to a "nokoss" widely used in the cuisine of Senegal.

🍍 🥑 🥘

Discover Nouakchott, the capital city and economic hub of Mauritania

Nouakchott, originally derived from Berber, meaning "place of the winds" is the capital and largest city of Mauritania. It is one of the largest cities in the Sahel. The city also serves as the administrative and economic center of Mauritania.

Nouakchott was a mid-sized village of little importance until 1958 when it was chosen as the capital of the nascent nation of Mauritania, and since then, the city has seen nothing but growth.

Nouakchott was a large, fortified fishing village in pre-colonial times and under French rule. As Mauritania prepared for independence, it lacked a capital city. The area of present-day Nouakchott was chosen by Moktar Ould Daddah, the first President of Mauritania, and his advisors. The village was selected as the capital city for its central location. Ould Daddah desired the new capital to symbolise modernity and national unity, which ruled out existing cities or towns in the interior.

At the time Nouakchott was chosen to be capital, it was planned to accommodate 15,000 people. However, beginning in the 1970s, a vast number of Mauritanians began moving to Nouakchott because environmental conditions in their home villages had become too harsh due to drought and increasing desertification. This migration rose the city's population to 20,000 in 1969. As of 2013, the city had a population of 958,399 million people. Many of the newcomers settled in slum areas of the city that were poorly maintained and extremely overcrowded. However, more recently, the living conditions of some of these inhabitants have improved.

The economy of Mauritania in general is still largely based on agriculture and livestock, even though most of the nomads and many subsistence farmers were forced into the cities by recurring droughts in the 1970s and 1980s.
Mauritania has extensive deposits of iron ore, which account for almost 50% of total exports. The decline in world demand for this ore, however, has led to cutbacks in production. With the current rise in metal prices, gold and copper mining companies are opening mines in the interior. The nation's coastal waters are among the richest fishing areas in the world, but overexploitation by foreigners threatens this key source of revenue. In recent years, drought and economic mismanagement have resulted in a buildup of foreign debt.

Nouakchott's culture is a mixture of many influences, both indigenous and external from the ancient Berber people, the Moors and the French, especially visible in both music and cuisine. Mauritanian music is a tradition carried down by the Moors when musicians formed the lowest rung of society and performed for anyone who paid them. Today, the industry is more refined, but the use of Moor instruments such as the four-stringed lute and the kettle drum remain firmly intact.
In a similar fashion, Nouakchott cuisine can be seen as an amalgamation of several influences.

While many dishes and ingredients like dried meats, grilled goat, sheep and couscous clearly highlight Berber and Moorish contributions, there are also more modern interpretations like baked goods and French pastries.

Attractions in Nouakchott include the National Museum of Mauritania, the National Library and the National Archives. The city hosts several markets, including the Marocaine market and the beaches. One beach is devoted to fishing boats where fish can be bought fresh at the Fish market. Nouakchott is a principal selling place of native Saharan meteorites. Among the places of worship, they are predominantly Muslim mosques.

There are also Christian churches and temples like the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nouakchott, Protestant churches and Evangelical Churches.
Nouakchott is a beautiful city and it's a good place to explore if you're seeking a getaway destination.

Our magic LUTs and presets for color grading: https://timelab.pro/presets?utm_source=ytdesc&utm_medium=mauritania&utm_campaign=presets

We traveled to Mauritania in search of stunning landscapes and beautiful colors, but what we discovered there was something absolutely magical.

Mauritania revealed itself to us like a symphony of nature's elements. When we experienced the raw power of the earth, the gentle touch of the wind, the captivating dance of fire, and soothing embrace of water, it felt like there was an invisible force, a fifth element, giving meaning to everything that surrounded us.

Among the calm sand dunes, we met people who found their peace amidst the shifting sands, while others, along the shore, were braving the ocean. And in between, the wondrous Eye of the Sahara stood as a silent witness. Like a celestial watching over the ever-changing life amid the timeless dunes, quietly keeping the secrets of the past.

Immersed in the nature of Mauritania, we felt wonder and connection to the timeless history.

Why is no one Visiting or even talking about this African Country – Mauritania.
This is Mauritania, one of the largest countries in Africa in terms of land area spanning over 1,030,000 kilometer square of land but despite having such a vast land, the country only has a population of about 4.2 million people making it one of the emptiest countries not only in Africa but the world with 3 people per square kilometers.
For those of you who have never heard about this country, Mauritania is a beautiful country located in cross road between north and West Africa. Mauritania gained its independence from France on November 28, 1960. Moktar Ould Daddah became the country's first president, and Mauritania became a one-party state. Since then, the country has experienced political instability, including military coups and periods of unrest, but has made progress towards establishing a democratic government.
Mauritania is known for its vast and varied landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and unique wildlife.
One of the country's most striking features is its desert landscape, which covers over two-thirds of the country. The Sahara Desert in Mauritania is characterized by dramatic sand dunes, rocky outcrops, and stunning rock formations, such as the Eye of the Sahara, a massive circular geological formation that is visible from space. Mauritania is also home to a diverse range of wildlife, including antelopes, gazelles, hyenas, and jackals. The country's coastline, which stretches for over 700 km along the Atlantic Ocean, is home to a variety of marine life, including dolphins, whales, and sea turtles.
The country has a rich cultural heritage, with a mix of Arab, Berber, and sub-Saharan African influences. The ancient city of Chinguetti, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to a collection of well-preserved medieval manuscripts and is a center of Islamic scholarship.
Overall, Mauritania is a beautiful country with a unique landscape, diverse wildlife, and rich cultural heritage. Despite all this awesomeness, the country is some of the least Visited Country in Africa together with Libya, Comoros and Equatorial Guinea. According to the Mauritanian government, during the 2018-2019 tourist season, a total of 4,000 foreign tourists visited Mauritania on charter flights. This is significantly higher than the previous season 2017-2018 when a total of 1,500 tourists were registered, representing an annual increase of 166%. But since Covid The number are at its lowest despite the fact that borders are now open. People are still not visiting the country meanwhile it neighbors like Algeria, morocco and Tunisia have millions of tourists visiting the countries.
The Big Question is Why, Why does such a beautiful country have very few people visiting it. Well in this video, we will try our best to tell you why very few people visit Mauritania but first if you are new here welcome, be sure to subscribe and turn on notification so you don’t miss any of our videos.
There are several factors that contribute to the relatively low number of tourists visiting Mauritania: Including
1. Security concerns
Mauritania has experienced security concerns in recent years, including terrorism and kidnapping. The country is situated in the Sahel region, which has been affected by instability and violence linked to extremist groups such as Al-Qaida and its affiliates. In the past, there have been several incidents of terrorist attacks and kidnappings in Mauritania, including an attack on the French Embassy in Nouakchott in 2009 and the kidnapping of a French tourist in 2010. In addition, there have been instances of cross-border attacks and banditry in the country's border regions. The government of Mauritania has taken steps to improve security in the country, including increasing police presence and border patrols, improving intelligence gathering and sharing, and cooperating with regional and international partners. The government has also implemented a range of counterterrorism measures and has been successful in disrupting several terrorist plots. Despite these measures, security remains a concern in Mauritania, particularly in the border regions and remote areas. The US Department of State currently advises travelers to exercise increased caution in Mauritania due to terrorism and kidnapping risks.
2. Lack of marketing and promotion of the Country.
Mauritania's tourism industry has been hindered by a lack
