African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) president Gil Robertson moderates a roundtable with AAFCA members Lisa Kennedy, Ronda Racha Penrice, and Ed Adams to discuss classic Black films from the Sony Pictures catalog. These three AAFCA critics reviewed nine classic films, which are important to cinematic history and encouraged important dialogue about race in theaters and homes across America and across the world.

Sony Pictures Action is a multi-pronged racial equity and inclusion initiative from Sony Pictures Entertainment. We encourage audiences to donate to the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund as part of our ongoing efforts. Please see the donate button attached to this video.

More than five million acres of land were taken away from the original inhabitants since Kenya's independence. But losing land is not just about losing the land itself, it's also about losing a sense of belonging and identity. This is the case for the families of the late Ndurere Muhunyo and the late Benjamin Ithinyai. The two were gifted a piece of land spanning 303 acres by their employer Fabian Wallis in Nyandarua County, but they were evicted from the land 1971 by the former GSU commandant Ben Gethi.

In the second episode of 'Title Deals', Africa Uncensored’s Joy Kirigia takes us deep into this land dispute and an enduring quest for justice that stretches over half a century.

Dakar To Port Loko: Perspectives From West Africa provides viewers with an unparalleled opportunity to experience West African life and perspective from the ground level. A completely genuine and unbiased account, the film transcends popular perceptions of Africans as beholden to group mentalities by allowing individual African perspectives and personalities to shine through. Whereas other documentaries focus on the thoughts and opinions of an outside narrator, Dakar To Port Loko: Perspectives From West Africa focuses entirely on the thoughts and opinions of individual Africans themselves. Hear entertaining, thoughtful, and contrasting perspectives on United States foreign policy, work and economics, community development, and civil war. Ideal for high school and collegiate classrooms, Dakar To Port Loko: Perspectives From West Africa is guaranteed to provide both inspiration to students and a refreshing balance to a multitude of educational discourses on Africa. Official selection of the South African Film Festival | SAFF

Miriam Makeba’s talent and vibrant personality shine through award-winning director Mika Kaurismaki’s inspirational tribute. Packed with five decades of rare archival footage, the film is enriched by interviews with some of the key people who knew her as fellow musicians or activists. Exiled from South Africa for over thirty years, Makeba became a pariah in the US after marrying Black Panther Stokely Carmichael, leading to the couple’s move to Guinea. Not only did Makeba have to deal with forced exile from her homeland, she also suffered great personal losses. Her banishment by the SA government informed her art and performance style. Makeba’s legendary singing became a passionate message of black liberation to the world.

For more information, our full program and to purchase tickets go to saff.org.au

The SAFF is a not-for-profit event organised by a group of passionate volunteers with a mandate to showcasing South African talent, culture and diversity. SAFF is a festival with a conscience. The net proceeds from the festival support Education without Borders (EwB).

A Good Man in Africa Official Trailer #1 (1994) - Sean Connery Movie

Morgan Leafy is a British diplomat and works in the small African state of Kinjanja, in the process of decolonisation. Arthur Fanshawe, a new member of the Commission, brings Leafy the news that oil has just been discovered in Kinjanja. For the British to obtain the benefits of such unexpected news, they must maintain good relations with the man who appears likely to be the next president of Kinjanja, Sam Adekunle. But a diplomatic crisis occurs: a woman dies at the High Commission and the British want to prolong the native burial honors for several days.

This year's festival features 39 films from 25 countries — 40% directed by women and 12 are North American or U.S. premieres — bringing the best in contemporary African cinema to the Washington, DC, area.

Other highlights include Burkinabé film DESRANCES, featuring Haitian American superstar Jimmy Jean-Louis; MY FRIEND FELA, an award-winning documentary about Nigerian music legend Fela Kuti; and Urbanworld Jury Prize winner THE GHOST AND THE HOUSE OF TRUTH, produced by Nollywood mogul Ego Boyo. The festival closes with a new restoration of Tunisian director Férid Boughedir's landmark survey of African cinema, CAMÉRA D'AFRIQUE, which first screened at the 1983 Cannes Film Festival; and returning for its fifth year on Saturday March 7, the African Marketplace, where attendees can shop local vendors selling African home goods, clothing, jewelry, books, and art.

Michael Campbell is one of the few hundred white farmers left in Zimbabwe since President Robert Mugabe began his violent land seizure program in 2000. In 2008, after suffering years of multiple land invasions, he challenged Robert Mugabe before the SADC (South African Development Community) international court, charging him with racial discrimination and of violations of Human Rights.

For several decades during the dark days of Apartheid, India and South Africa remained distant from each other. Post Apartheid, relationships were renewed and both countries gradually became interdependent on each other. From sharing and helping each other with acquiring resources, both countries are now self reliant in many fields. The partnership between India and South Africa goes beyond trade and commerce. It also has a strategic dimension driven by a shared world view and common perceptions. The film uses a series of interviews and narratives to explore the harmonious relationship between India and South Africa.
