Embark on an exciting journey with me as I explore Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland) for the first time, showcasing the country's astonishing natural beauty, vibrant cities, and authentic cultural experiences.
Our adventure begins at Shonalanga Lodge in Dombeya Game game reserve, where giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, antelopes, and warthogs freely roam. Experience life up close with nature, as we wake up to the sight of these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.
We then venture into the nearby city of Manzini, getting a glimpse of the city's vibrant lifestyle and the offerings of a typical supermarket. I take you through the bustling streets, giving you an authentic peek into the daily life in Eswatini's urban centres.
Accompanied by our knowledgeable guide Lunga from Nolu Tours, we traverse the markets in Mbabane, Eswatini's capital. We dive deep into the heart of Eswatini's culture as we explore the country's top attraction - the local cultural village.
Our Eswatini journey is enriched by a day spent with Phumie Mamba, the son of a local clan leader. We explore the Mamba Kingdom and gain an understanding of rural life and politics in Eswatini.
Next, we're on a self-drive tour to discover some of the country's hidden gems. A visit to the Hlane Royal National Park reveals an impressive collection of wildlife - white rhinos, wild lions, elephants, and more.
Finally, we cross the border into South Africa for an excursion to Kruger National Park, a journey that adds to the richness of our Sub-Saharan experience.
This video is a blend of a vlog and a documentary, featuring my first-hand accounts, interviews with local guides, and some breathtaking footage of a country very few people know much about.
Whether you're an armchair tourist, seeking travel inspiration, or considering a visit to Eswatini, join me as we discover some of what the beautiful nation of Eswatini offers travellers.

Last May, I had the chance to visit the exotic country of Papua New Guinea to represent the Philippines in the APEC App Challenge, a software development competition that is one of the many pre-events of APEC 2018.
This trip would easily qualify as one for the books. First, I and Mark were privileged to be chosen to join this competition. Second, meeting some of the best software developers from other countries in the Asia-Pacific and becoming friends with them is just amazing. Third, I am beyond grateful that Papua New Guinea is the host of APEC this year.
As a travel writer myself, I'm probably not gonna be able to think about traveling to PNG for leisure on my own discretion. But it's so refreshing to experience the country in a different perspective, and as an APEC delegate at that.
During the hackathon, I and Mark developed an e-commerce platform with an image recognition technology. Other countries worked around VR, AR, blockchain, indexing system, and SMS tech. When everyone could just win the competition, it wqs trimmed down to whose technology best answers the pain points of the target market - the bilum mamas or weavers of Papua's famous handicraft bags. 💼
While we did not win the competition, we won new learnings, memories as well as new friends to keep and treasure. Congrats to PNG, Australia and Vietnam! 👏
It's a totally great experience and we're grateful to The Asia Foundation for this entire experience. 🙌

Papua New Guinea is a Pacific country, consisting of the Eastern half of New Guinea and the island of Melanesia. Papua New Guinea has the richest tribal heritage of all countries in the world, with scores of tribes living in reservations on the islands. The country has 852 documented languages, of which there are no known speakers for 12. The country is also home to a number of tribes that have not come into contact with the outside world for centuries, making them a scientific and cultural curiosity.

Here are 6 things to do in Papua New Guinea
Attend the Milamala Festival
The traditional festival of the Trobriand Islands is celebrated to mark the harvest of the sweet yams and is one of the most recommended things to do in Papua New Guinea. The festival is usually celebrated with a whole host of activities, including canoe racing, matches of cricket and some really dirty dancing according to local customs. This festival of free love and yams has become increasingly unpredictable in dates because it depends on the wishes of the local chief.
Visit the National Museum and Art Gallery
The Museum, located in Port Moresby, should be on top of your Papua New Guinea things to do list. The various exhibits are divided into sections such as music instruments, ceremonial drums used in festivals(kundu and garamut), clothes and costumes, totem poles and canoes and other seafaring things, and finally elaborate masks. The Milne Bay canoe is a popular attraction here, decorated in extensive splashboards and huge cowrie shells.
Watch the Goroka Show
The show is the oldest in all the country, and attracts thousands of people to the National Sport Institute’s Sports Oval in Goroka, the capital of the Eastern Highland Province. The singsing groups are the central attraction of the festival, flooding the show with traditional music and dance. All hotels in the city are sold out weeks before the event, and the Goroka festival is truly one of the hottest things to do in Papua New Guinea in September.
Spend a day at the Varirata National Park
Located at an average height of about 800 metres, the Varirata National Park is a little reminder of the fact that the Oceanic islands are home to some of the most stunning and diverse flora fauna in the world. There are several clearly marked trails here that can take anywhere from an hour to three hours to traverse. You can spot the occasional paradise birds and kingfishers, but birdwatchers have reported more exotic species, making it one of the best Papua New Guinea activities for nature enthusiasts.
Meet the mudmen in Asaro
So this is something that you would definitely not see anywhere else and is truly one of the most amazing things to do in Papua New Guinea. Traditional warriors in Asaro wearing costumes also covered themselves in mud and wore mud masks to produce a striking and intimidating image, and even though there are no tribal wars and real mudmen to speak of in Asaro anymore, tour companies can organize recreations of local warfare for tourists.
Chill on the beaches at Yuo Island
A great answer to the question of Papua New Guinea what to do, the beaches on this remote island just off the mainland are god’s own paradise. The pristine beaches and waters and forests here will make you feel like the last person on Earth. There is no electricity or running water here to add to the lost world charm. The ultra clear waters here are great for snorkeling and diving, and you can find some truly exceptional marine life here.
Make sure to subscribe to find out all the best things to do in your favorite city.

In August of 2018 I spent 4 weeks on the island of New Guinea. Half of that time was in Papua New Guinea, discovering many beautiful tribal communities and three incredible festivals. The preparation for these festivals was often more wondrous than the spectacle of the festival itself, so the first half of the video is devoted to that preparation, while the second half is devoted to the dance, music, and artistry of these amazing tribes.
Festivals:
- Mount Hagen Cultural Festival
- 4th Annual Middle Sepik Festival
- Paiya Mini Show

Like every year in April, the Guinean capital is organising the "72 hours of books". This event brings together writers from the country and the continent, publishers and readers. It is an opportunity to put books in the spotlight in this country where more than half the population is illiterate, libraries are rare and books are inaccessible. A report from Conakry by FRANCE 24's Sarah Sakho, Malick Diakité and Sam Bradpiece.

Guinea, officially the Republic of Guinea, is a country on the West coast of Africa whose capital is Conakry.
Guinea has a northern border with Guinea-Bissau, Senegal and Mali; and a southern border with Sierra Leone, Liberia and the Ivory Coast.
The nation forms a crescent as it curves from its western border on the Atlantic Ocean toward the east and the south. The sources of the Niger River, Gambia River, and Senegal River are all found in the Guinea Highlands.

PNG has had its fair share of car-jackings, some very deadly!
This is an educational video: crime does not pay! Here we present a compilation of car-jackings that were caught on camera and uploaded on Youtube!
The original sources of the videos are acknowledged and links provided below.
Again, let us remind each other that crime does not pay, and eventually perpetrators will be caught and brought to justice.
Our prayers also goes to those whose vehicles were jacked or who have been traumatised by these unfortunate events.
