VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
A report released today by the World Health Organization and its partners says violence against women remains pervasive and starts when women are alarmingly young. Across their lifetime, one in three women, that’s around 736 million, are subjected to physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner or sexual violence from a non-partner. That’s a number that has remained largely unchanged over the past decade. One in four young women who have been in a relationship will have already experienced violence by the time they reach their mid-twenties.
The report is based on data from 2000 to 2018 and does not reflect the ongoing impact of the pandemic. WHO and its partners warned that COVID-19 has triggered a “shadow pandemic” of increased women’s exposure to violence, as a result of measures such as lockdowns and disruptions to vital support services.
The report also found that the regions of Oceania, Southern Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa have the highest prevalence rates of intimate partner violence among women who are between the ages of 15 and 49. The lowest rates are found in Europe, Central Asia, Eastern Asia, and South-East Asia.

CENTRAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE FUND
This month marks the 15th anniversary of the launch of the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund.
The Fund has allowed humanitarian organizations to kick-start urgent aid operations worldwide within hours of a natural disaster. With it, the UN is able to reach people in crises not receiving the attention and funding they deserve. The fund is a cornerstone in the response to global crises and in standing with people at their time of greatest needs.
In 2020, the Fund helped bring food assistance to over seven million people. It also ensured that 5.5 million women and girls were protected in natural disasters among many other crises.
Since 2006, CERF has allocated $7 billion helping millions of people in 100 countries get critical life-saving assistance.
The UN thanks all the donors and Member States who have generously contributed funding to the Central Emergency Response Fund over the years, as well as the partners who have worked together to deliver humanitarian relief and protection.

SECURITY COUNCIL/SUDAN
The Security Council met virtually on the new UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan, otherwise known as UNITAMS.
In his first briefing to the Council, the head of the mission, Volker Perthes, said the political transition process in Sudan is moving forward.
He stressed that an inclusive political process, including all segments of Sudan’s diverse society, is essential for its success.
Mr. Perthes said that the protection of civilians remains one of the mission’s main priorities, with 165 people killed and more than 100,000 people displaced in intercommunal clashes in West Darfur in January.
He said the UN is working to support the new Government to strengthen the protection of civilians.

MYANMAR
The Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar, Christine Schraner Burgener is continuing her diplomacy. She is in contact with countries in the region, including Myanmar’s direct neighbors. Discussions about her potential travel to the region continue.

Hi, guys Sandy Ingram here welcome to the education matrix channel. In today's video, we have important news on the status of crude oil around the world what is causing the problem, and the price increase as a result but first, you should know the existing President of Iraq was nominated for a second term by the ruling Kurdish party. We do not yet know the fate of the prime minister's position. What is most important about this video is the status of oil in Europe and the Middle East here's what's happening; The United States forecasts that OPEC's petroleum production will increase to nearly 2.7 million barrels per day in 2022 the largest year-over-year increase in OPEC production since 2004. Now Libya’s oil production crashed due to infrastructure maintenance problems and outages due to blockades at four oil fields since the end of December. Armed factions within Libya stop the production of the oil fields. Iraq and other OPEC members will need to increase oil production to make up for the lost oil supply from Libya because the supply and demand oil prices did increase during the past week and are holding steady right at around 86 dollars and 46 cents per barrel. Some economists forecast a hundred dollars a barrel in the coming months while this may be good news for Iraq this type of forecast is wreaking havoc on the global financial platforms. In this article, we learn Iraqi Kurds learn mandarin to get jobs from Chinese companies we learn about Iraq’s Uber-type business model has the largest funding of any startup in Iraq’s history. You may want to understand about the channel's community section is there is a separate incident almost every week involving ISIS drones and US troops convoy and envoy attacks these events do not stop the normal flow of life in Iraq. People go about their day and week with little incident until the area they live and work in is disrupted. It is important to understand that Iraq as a whole is peaceful within the communities and neighborhoods. All and any violent reports are placed into the community section BUY IRAQI DINARS

Canada at a Crossroads on China “Work Together or Perish Together” featuring Noam Chomsky

In aiming to “develop and launch a comprehensive Indo-Pacific strategy” and strengthening ties to the US, the Trudeau government has signalled its intent to join US-led war preparations in the Asia Pacific and provoke China. Join world-renowned linguist and lifetime anti-war activist Noam Chomsky in a webinar to consider the pitfalls of closer alignment with the US empire, and why diplomacy and working with China are the only option to meet the global challenges ahead. Either “Work Together or Perish Together”.

One of the most cited scholars alive, Noam Chomsky is considered a founder of modern linguistics and has published over 100 books, including his recent “Requiem for the American Dream.” Noam Chomsky has been an anti-war, anti-capitalist activist for over 60 years and continues to call to account liberal elites for propping up inherently unjust systems that have brought us to the brink of climate catastrophe and nuclear annihilation. Noam Chomsky taught linguistics at MIT from 1955 to 2017 and is currently a laureate professor of linguistics at the University of Arizona.

This event is presented by Canada-China Focus, a new pan-Canadian, anti-racist project that aims to promote critical conversations and policy initiatives on Canada-China relations. Canada-China Focus is a join initiative of University of Victoria’s Centre for Global Studies and the Canadian Foreign Policy Institute.

It is small, impoverished, and one of few communist states left in Asia. Laos has, in recent years, seen an increase in support from neighboring China. But at what cost?

From fast trains to dams and bridges over the Mekong river — China is financing large-scale infrastructure projects in its neighboring country. For the first time, Laos has a chance to develop — but is the country becoming dependent? Might Laos be falling into a debt trap that could threaten stability, ultimately benefiting Beijing? DW correspondent Sebastian Glaab traveled to Laos to take a closer look at a dam under construction.

The world seems to have gone directly from a hegemonic US-led international system to an interregnum in the global order. The traditional phase of multipolarity—or restoration of the balance of power, or even a struggle among rival systems of order has been skipped. Jason Pack's new book which launches in the UK the week of this event and in the US in February 2022, Libya and the Global Enduring Disorder (Hurst/Oxford University Press) presents the Libya conflict as an ideal microcosm for examining the collective failures typical of our new geopolitics. More so than civil wars in Yemen, Syria, Venezuela, or Ukraine, Libya’s ongoing crisis constitutes the ideal microcosm in which to identify the salient features, and likely outcomes, of this new era of geopolitics. The country’s post-Qadhafi trajectory has been molded by the stark absence of coherent international diplomacy; while Libya’s incremental implosion has precipitated cross-border contagion, further corroding global institutions and international coordination.

Please join Pack as he introduces the key themes of his book and former UN Acting Special Envoy to Libya Stephanie Williams and senior research fellow Tim Eaton as they share the dilemmas they faced coordinating international policy and how they shed light on the concept of the "Enduring Disorder".

Delving into specific test cases, especially the ongoing chaos surrounding Libya's scheduled December 24 election, the panel will discuss how the Biden Administration's policy towards Afghanistan and the Middle East in general and Libya in particular highlight where today's geopolitics seems to be headed and the collective actions challenges that undergird all of today's major global challenges from climate change, to tax havens, to Libya's transition.

For more background, Jason Pack's recent piece in Foreign Policy offers an overview of the Enduring Disorder concept: "Libya’s Chaos Is a Warning to the World" in Foreign Policy.

The business of air travel relies on open borders, open skies and freedom of movement, leaving it acutely vulnerable to the trend towards rising protectionism and nationalism in politics across the world. Aviation reporter for the Wall Street Journal Benjamin Katz strings together a series of events in recent years, including former US President Trump’s travel ban, the pandemic, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, through the lens of aviation, to show how our world is getting smaller, what that means for the industry and crucially, what it means for passengers. Benjamin Katz is a reporter writing about the global aviation and aerospace industry in The Wall Street Journal’s London bureau.

His stories look at how the industry navigates the ups and downs of major geopolitical, economic and global health events. He frequently covers issues spanning safety, company strategy, the experience of flying and the global battle between airplane makers including Airbus and Boeing as they jostle for supremacy.

Benjamin joined the WSJ from Bloomberg News, which he joined as an intern in 2014. Initially covering British business and politics, he shortly after began specialising in the aviation sector. Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, he moved to the U.K. to complete a master's in international journalism at Cardiff University.

With Journal colleagues, he received an Honorable Mention at the 2020 SABEW awards for coverage of the pandemic’s impact on airlines. He previously won a Peter Lisagor Chicago Headline Club breaking news award and was a finalist for the Harold Wincott Award for Young Financial Journalist of the Year in 2017. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
